Since joining the BXII 3 years ago, WV has lost 10 games where it turned the ball over 3 or more times.

Ten potential Ws erased by these self-inflicted miscues.

It knocked us out of the BXII race last year. Dead last in turnover margin & 119th nationally.

It lost us two critical - and seemingly winnable - games already this season.

Just wondering thoughts on it...Is it QB play? Coaching? Discipline? Focus? Bad, untimely luck? Stout defenses faced that take the ball away from the offense?

Why is this occurring at alarming rates and holding back the program? Can it be fixed? I hope so, but how?

If the trend isn't reversed, does it open a new coaching era in Morgantown?

I rarely dispute Woody in Helvetia, and I certainly won't in this case.
It takes focus and discipline to hang onto the football, to not throw interceptions, to not fumble, just as it takes both to hit a golf ball 200 yards down the middle of the fairway.

Dana does a lot of ranting and raving on the sidelines, which the TV cameras pick up throughout the game. They have a camera on him because they know his face and body language will show his emotions. The players see it, too, so it has to affect them.

Discipline begins with the coaches. The players pick up on that.

WVU has been in both games it lost, into the 4th quarter against Oklahoma and into overtime with Oklahoma State. It wouldn't have required much more discipline and ball control to win both games against Top 25 teams.

THAT is the lesson I take from this season. Sure, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor and TCU are the October Octopus Onslaught. Four unbeaten teams (when WVU plays them) in a row that are ranked. But WVU could be 5-0 with just a bit more discipline and ball control.

It's that simple.

Let's hope the lesson sinks in for Baylor and TCU. And then WVU should be able to sail through Texas Tech, Texas, Kansas, Iowa State and Kansas State, which certainly is not as tough a schedule as the October Big 12 lineup for the Mountaineers.

Turnovers, especially fumbles, seem like an ongoing/longstanding problem for us.
Remember Clarke fumbling at goal line vs UConn (2010) to give them the back door into the BCS that year - that game we just gave away to them. Also, vs. Auburn in 2009 (5 Ints), vs NC State in 2010 (4 fumbles lost and 1 int). And many others. So, this also happened before Holgs. Not protecting Holgs - this current team doesn't seem disciplined and makes a lot of mental mistakes. Just pointing out it's been a recurring problem for a while.
