You have to wonder WTF is wrong with some people.....I had forgotten he played for my Dolphins.

Hey te; I decided to hijack this thread to ask which of the playoff series' you're most looking forward to seeing.

I know the Canadian Press is bonkers over the Canadiens/Sens.....and I that is an interesting series......but I myself am probably most anxious to watch the Craps/Islanders. Still not sure who I'll eventually pull for in that one. The Preds/Hawks looks interesting as well (perhaps not surprisingly, I'm rooting for the Preds there). I'll also see if I can stay awake long enough to catch some of the Ducks/Jets.

I'm not happy about this.....and while I suppose I'll watch most (if not necessarily all) of it......I admit to essentially zero enthusiasm for the Rangers/Pens. Maybe they shock the world.....and I realize many feel the Rangers are overrated.....but I still can't see how this particular Pens team scrapes together enough to make this a competitive series unless pretty much every planet lines up for them.

I think people up here are just about bonkers over the sheer numbers of Cdn teams in the playoff this year...alot more interest than usual imo...plenty of non-Leafers in this town to help fill the bars as well...

Like you I'd love to stay up for that Ducks/Jets matchup...at least the games in The Peg will be on a bit earlier (likely 8.30 or so I think), I anticipate their fans will be rather rabid and LOUD in that little arena! Craps/ Isles holds some definite interest and would likely find myself rooting for NY , as what fans they do have local in Nassau do deserve some enjoyment after years of futility and considering the upcoming move to Brooklyn.

As for 'us'....well I think the Rangers will have their way, and also think they could very well make a run and possibly win the whole thing. I think they're looking better than last year and now have a legit option of 2 goalies if one should falter or are in need of a shakeup to change the momentum...I will definitely be tuned in for game 1, and if we can keep it close at MSG It'll hold interest for me further...as you say IF the planets align and IF MAF can stand on his head like he has a few times this season their is a chance...albeit a small one!

I heard the other night Erhoff at least may be good to go? We NEED him pretty badly at this point!

I thought I'd previously heard that 6 Canadian teams had made it in, but I'm only counting 5 (Canadiens, Sens, Jets, Flames, and Canucks). Won't be hard for me to pull for Winnipeg versus Anaheim; I like watching them just to hear the locals yell TRUE NORTH during the anthem.....very cool. And, I'll have no trouble pulling for Calgary against Vancouver.

Your talking about Canadian teams got me to wondering about something. I realize the media makes much about Canadian teams being in the playoffs. But while perhaps Ottawa and Winnipeg and Calgary and Vancouver fans might pull for one another.....though I'm not sure that'd be the case for Calgary and Vancouver.....I simply can't see (for example) hard core Montreal and Toronto fans pulling for the one another. Is that true, or am I mistaken about that ??

Speaking of Toronto, I heard some of the Shanahan PC when he admitted everyone on the team is available; even for me in Ohio, that's hardly a surprise. They were talking about the need for a change in attitude; guess they might just as well have said Kadri is therefore #1 on their unload list......higher even than Phaneuf and Kessel. I also heard of some theory that Rob Blake could be in line for GM; how do you feel about somebody like him ??

One new thought; would Shanahan consider breaking the bank in order to try and convince someone like Steve Yzerman to leave Tampa ?? Obviously, that would be a very unusual move.....maybe chasing an under-contract GM violates every Gentlemen's Agreement (not to mention his current contract) known to Man......and besides, perhaps Stevie Y shoots down the idea down before it even got legs.

But I guess I'm assuming Shanny and Y are old pals; and maybe Y wouldn't be opposed to leaving Florida in order to get back onto the League's Main Street. OTOH, the Lightning have a pretty nice future ahead of them, largely due to Yzerman's work. Would probably take an awful lot of money just to get him interested, let alone leave.

Meanwhile, I myself have read/heard that Ehrhoff, at best, is little more than an outside possibility to play at some point. For now, I myself wouldn't bet on it.

The thing that stood out to me was his celly was in for first degree murder.

They were stuck together in a small space and were going to be for a long time. Being confined with a killer twenty three hours a day for years is a hell of a lot different than having a knucklehead in the next bunk at summer camp for two weeks.

If the two had a beef, someone was going to end up dead in that cell. By jailhouse rules, Phillips did what he had to do.

An almost 20 year wait for playoff hockey in the Peg...unreal....

Re: Stevie Y, I think Shanny would certainly entertain the idea, of going after him, not sure what the buyout would be, or what type of $ would be involved but I wouldn't be surprised if Bell/Rogers gave him carte blanche at this point to get a name like Y's...As you say, would he leave the sunny climes and what looks like a VERY good thing going to undertake what would/ will be a massive rebuild...One other thing that stikes me is, Shanny has handcuffed himself in a way by hiring Dubas and Hunter last year, stipulating the new GM will HAVE to work with them...Dubas is analytics, and Hunter is a highly regarded judge, some including myself (as a diehard Pete's fan) would say BUYER of junior talent (He was with the Knights in the OHL, and they are almost impossible to keep up with in terms of what they can offer, and how they go about their business, often using back channels imo), The jury is still out on both of them however at the NHL level...

As for Canadians hoping for other Canadian teams other than their own, and how happy the country is that there are a large number of teams represented ...I think the media makes a bit much of it really. I know fans up here who support the Bruins, Flyers, Pens, Wings, Canucks, Sens, etc and almost in equal numbers whether the team is Canadian based or not. Perhaps the Habs would have the highest amount of fans around here, other than those that have blue and white disease. Toronto fans will support just about any other Canadian team, including the Habs as a last resort, BUT just about every fan of any other Canadian team would NOT support the Leafs if they were the last franchise on earth...I don't think it's because of disdain for the on ice product either. IMO it's because most in Canada view Toronto and Torontonians as thinking they are the centre of the universe. As the largest city and traditionally the business/economic centre of the country I think there is some sort of resentment (maybe wrong word)? Regardless whether the team sucks or not...

And that triangle of Van, Edm, Cal out west is a funny dynamic too...they all hate each other almost equally lol!

Blake...an interesting choice. I might take the risk. I hear he is adjusting very quickly to the management side of things. A risk being that Shanny, Hunter, Dubas really have little experience in running a team on THIS scale...under THIS microscope. He is a local boy for the most part and may just salivate at the idea of finally coming home...I always quite admired Blake as a player, played fairly, with skill, and man could he throw a check!

Here's hoping we can go in and steal one thurs night! Fingers are definitely crossed.....

Oh no doubt...It didn't shock me when I read of it, which I guess tells all one needs to know of Lawrence Phillips and his long and checkered past at the same time...

Some interesting stuff there which I hadn't realized; especially that Toronto was everyone's Public Enemy #1 in Canada. Guess it's not largely unlike how New York......no matter which team.....gets much in the way of affection here in the States from anyone outside the 5 boroughs.

Also, those of us from the States who are illiterate as to how these Junior teams operate financially have difficulty understanding how those kinds of dots connect to the League. You mentioned the Knights; I know they're a big deal in London.....I used to travel there annually in and around the Tavares days to visit a customer.....and distinctly recall Dale Hunter's role as a big wig. I admit I don't know Mark Hunter, but I assume he's Dale's brother and another member of the ruling clan.

I didn't know you pulled particularly for the Petes; what I myself always liked like about the Major Juniors (whether the O, Q, or W) from a distance is how so many small towns in Canada can enjoy legitimate, first class play (no matter who you pull for in the League). I also love some of the great team nicknames; in particular, it's hard not to like any team which calls itself the Hitmen

BTW, I read this morning that Christian Ehrhoff, in fact, practiced and took contact yesterday; and is apparently now considered day-to-day. Reading between the lines, I'm guessing he might not dress for Game #1, but might be a decent chance for Game #2. Talk about needing this guy in the lineup........

Yep brothers...I can remember going to the Hunter brothers hockey camp when I was about 10 years old living in Sarnia, all 3 of them looked as big as Redwood trees to a little guy! I also distinctly remember Dale being a really nice and patient fella with us kids...a far cry from the SOB I detested with the Craps lol!

Not sure if you know those Hitmen when they first started were owned by Sakic, Theo Fleury, and Calgary's fave son Bret 'The Hitman' Hart...hence the cool name!

I love the Junior hockey, for essentially the same reason I'm addicted to college ball. Young raw extremely athletic talent, and the enviro is somewhat similar to college ball ,however obviously on a much smaller scale. 99% of the fans don't get on the kids when they make a mistake and if there's a drunk jackass that does he gets the staredown from the rest of the fans...the venom is saved for the refs lol...I'd love to attend one of the NCAA games in the north, and regret not going last year when I was in Burlington Vt. I hear the Catamounts crowd in the old fieldhouse there can get pretty intense...

There was a big offer to buy the Petes by a large corp last year , complete with a 6000 seat arena, but the team is one of the few still community owned and the offer was rejected. This will keep us from competing with London, Oshawa (dirtbags), and likely end the Pete's streak /record of sending the most players to the NHL eventually(I've happily rooted for Stevie Y, Pronger, the Staal bros, Begosian over the years and before my time Bowman and Roger Nielson). But then again its nice to sit in a character filled 3500 seat old barn for 20 bucks a seat , and a 5 dollar pint!

Anyway I'm rambling and likely driving LowFatMilk amongst others bananas lol...

That Erhoff update Is damn good news...for a team that badly needs him!!!

Oh one more thing....the link is my cousin...since we were talking Knights/ Shanny! He played for the Knights with Shanny, on his line for 2 years, getting 80 points in his last year and then drafted by the Sabres...Blew out his knee in Baltimore (AHL), then went on to coach the Brock University Badgers up here for the last 17 years...our family is awfully proud of Murray lol...although not enough for me to drop my Pete's!

I did not know the name Hitmen originated with Hart; pretty cool factoid. Also, I didn't know that the Generals (which I guess I now assume is/was a takeoff on General Motors) were considered dirtbags.

Too bad your cousin Murray lost his knee; but it sounds as though he settled pretty effectively into the coaching ranks. But he got drafted, and not too many can say that.

Meanwhile, all that Milk guy did was energize me to post more about hockey......he's a dickhead by most everyone's standard, and opinion is therefore completely and totally irrelevant to me. But what I can't figure out why he just doesn't pass by threads which have us exchanging messages.
