Underdog Vols outplay nationally ranked West Virginia for most of the game, but former Florida quarterback Will Grier can’t resist being a hero.

He leads the Mountaineers to two touchdowns in the last seven minutes. Sound familiar?

If our defense shows up at all and we don't commit turnovers, we will roll. This is a homecoming for Will Grier and he will put on a show.
It won't. It never has. If Tennessee holds WVU under 30 points, they win by the current point spread.

If it is that close, gonna be a long year.

Sounds like what folks said after Texas A&M trashed WVU hoops in last year’s opener. Fifteen straight wins later, #2 WVU had its highest ranking since Jerry West. Sweet 16, again. Led the national Champs by 6 mid-2nd half and were named their toughest out.

WVU BB was pronounced dead and un-NIT worthy in 2015 while trailing Monmouth in the 2nd half in an opener. Season turned out pretty well, 25-10, Sweet 16...

WVU barely edged a poor Syracuse football team 15-7 in the 2005 opener. It later trailed Louisville 24-7 in the fourth quarter. The Mountaineers finished 11-1 and beat the SEC champs in WVU’s first major bowl win in over 100 years.

The scoring margin of any opening win means...NOTHING.

Oddly enough...if Keller Chryst starts for Tennessee, it will be a homecoming for him, as well. His family moved from Charlotte to Palo Alto when he was a High School Freshman (his dad left the Carolina Panthers organization to join the 49ers). I'm surprised that there hasn't been much said on the WVU boards about Chryst and his uncle Paul...I guess it's because WVU and Pitt didn't play each other when he was the head coach there.
