I wasn't surprised that Ohio State's defense played poorly last night. The D-Line is still pretty good, but all new linebackers played (three of last year's Buckeye linebackers are on NFL rosters), and Ohio State's two starting cornerbacks were out injured, which meant that two freshman cornerbacks had to start, as well. That's a TON of inexperience in the back seven. Contrast that to Minnesota's offense, which had multiple fifth and sixth year seniors. The question moving forward is whether Ohio State's inexperienced back seven will improve as the season progresses. I think that it will, but am not convinced that Kerry Coombs, a great recruiter and master motivator, is a good defensive coordinator, so I don't know by how much. Jeff Hafley, who was the previous D-Coordinator, was great, but he left because Boston College hired him as its head coach.
