Kansas lost to Kentucky 72-40 early in the season when Kentucky was probably not playing its best.
Fast forward to yesterday and we lost 78-39, which is not that different from Kansas' result given that Kentucky is probably a better team now that the Freshmen have gotten the feel of their teammates.
Kansas does have more offensive fire power than us and they only managed to score 1 point more than we did against Kentucky.
Consider that the Big XII did poorly in this year's tournament (see Iowa State and Baylor) and that Kansas and WVU both got routed by Kentucky, it just shows how far our conference is off from the other conferences in college basketball.
If we had looked back at the Kansas score, we could have predicted this kind of point spread.
Yes, we are 25-10, which is a great turnaround from last year, but we did it in a Big XII conference that has not shown itself to be competitive with the rest of the country outside of WV and Oklahoma.
With that said, WVU is on the rise. They finished 17-16 last year and 25-10 this year. They were ousted in the NIT tournament last year by a Georgetown club that is not in the same stratosphere as this year's Kentucky team. WVU will be better next year and possibly even better the year afterward. This was a definite learning experience for the returning players.
