I think West Virginia is pretty solid. It's kind of ironic the way the schedule has been drawn up. Last year, you got what I thought were the top four teams in the conference all at your place. And you really beat the best one, at least in the regular season.
I believe your team is better this year, at most places. But you have to play those same four all on the road. It will be tough. This team might have made a serious run at the conference title with last year's schedule.
Your DLine dominated OUr OLine, IMO. It's not the same scheme, but you sort of play the way Buddy Ryan's Bear defenses did when they were great in the 80s. Sic em, and if they make an occasional big play, don't worry, but we'll beat up your quarterback enough to take over late. It would have worked, except OUr punter and coverage game kept you in horrible field position for more than half of the game.
OU has had a couple of DLinemen who have been incredibly disruptive in the first three games. They were non factors against your offense. I thought your offensive line was outstanding. And your running game was terrific.
There were some interesting stats in the game. WVU had 27 first downs to OU's 16. And OU was horrible on third down, something like two of 13. Throw in 12 Penalties for 132 yards and it's a stat line that you can seldom win with against a quality team. And the Mountaineers are a quality team. But the five to two turnover margin, which included OU having like 130 turnover return yards, including one for a touchdown were the difference.
I thought OUr receivers caught it better, though the best catch of the game was by your freshman on the weird angle fade for I think a two yard TD. Great catch.
But your style of play makes for big play vulnerability, and today, we made just enough to eek out a win. That didn't seem like a 20 point margin game. It will be hard for your team to win the conference with road trips to both TCU and Baylor, but you are definitely in the top half of the conference in terms of quality of team.
With Tech beating Arky and OU over UTenn and TCU over Minnesota and West Virginia routing Maryland more than the Michigan Harbaughs, I think the Big XII is a better conference than a year ago.
I loved trading messages with your posters this week, better than some of the strange people that sometimes hang around OUr board. And let me apologize, though it's not really my place, for a couple of Sooners arguing back and forth on your board earlier in the week. I guess we all have some uninformed people hanging around our boards.
Your university is a real asset to the conference. I hope your fans who visited Norman were treated well this weekend.
Good luck the rest of your season. And please, do us all a favor, and embarrass the hell out of Texas.
