that forces WVU to say "f' it?"

There has to be an outcome that clearly states Dana has lost his team and that our season tickets will likely plummet.

I know the buyout drops within a few days of that bowl game.

What I think would do it would be a 20 pt+ loss and a bad game by Howard again and Dana refusing to go to any backup despite the beating.

I will again say I fully expect a WVU win in this game, so hopefully this is for conversation purposes only.

I'll let others debate the coaching (in this thread).

I just wonder why the big donors are willing to pay a coach to not work while at the same time not offering that same (buyout) cash for a pretty nice (although not major) facility upgrade.

Facilities make a difference if you have an upper tier program and you are trying to separate yourself from the others there. When you have a mediocre program (WVU) with a coach (Dana) sitting on a seat made of fresh magma, your big push needs to be to stabilize the program from a coaching perspective and then focus on facilities once you get the right guy in place and established.

At least IMO...

There is no buyout and nothing drops, except that every pay period what we owe him declines by an equivalent amount figured by subtracting his most recent paycheck.

Lyons has already said he will be back for 2016. Obviously, a bad game will further stifle enthusiasm and support but, it really can't get a whole lot worse from this one game. It appears most of the remaining Holgorsen supporters will excuse anything and the remainder not already very unhappy he is returning base their position on the cost of letting him go. That does not change after the game.

Lyons was being very Clintoneque in his use of the word 2016.

No, he wasn't. Barring off the field scandal, Dana will be our coach when the 2016 season begins and, unless we REALLY implode, through the regular season.

I doubt it. The golden parachute Luck gave Holgorsen makes getting rid of him impractical, regardless the outcome of the bowl...

So, if WVU blows-out ASU by 3 tds, should Dana get a long contract extension?

No not imo...I'd like to see the body of work in at least September 2016 and preferably October to make that judgement...he should be 3-0 at end Sept and minimum 6-1 by end Oct next year to EARN any type extension....nobody is knockin down his door to sign him up regardless the bowl result...let it play out.

Short of something really bad off the field by the coach - Dana will be our coach in 2016. I am not a fan of Dana but realize the changing coaches right now would be a disaster. Most of the good choices out there have been taken or have decided to stay in their current situations. There were just way too many vacancies out there this season.

Holgorson will be the coach in 2016 barring any scandalous incident. The bowl game doesn't mean much of anything concerning his future. There where too many coaching vacancies this year and it would be hard to hire someone this late in the process. His future will depend on his 2016 results. If he wins 9 games he will be back in 2017 if its 8 its 50/50 If 7 or less he will be gone

Of course the bowl game has meaning, it is silly to spout otherwise. The outcome of the game determines how much heat is under Dana's seat for the next year. There is no disputing that his seat is hot one way or the other, how hot has yet to be determined. Lyons has been close to the chest on this issue but what he has said that is on record is that this game is important to him. If this game is important to him then it better be crucial to Dana.

My own personal opinion is that Dana is a dead man walking, we are just waiting it out now. Nothing he can do will help himself because the people that ultimately decide his fate is not Lyons or Gee, it is the people that buy the tickets. Dana has lost a large portion of them and those on the fence need little reason to jump on that bandwagon. Those that remain on his side grow smaller each day and that is a trend that never reverses.

I meant it had nothing to do with his immediate future. Regardless if he wins or loses the bowl game his seat is hotter than hell. He will be the coach in 2016 and he will have to be better than 7-5 to keep his job the question is does 8-4 do it 9 wins he keeps his job for another year but i think he needs to string together an couple of 9 + winning seasons to totally get off the hot seat

Lyons is in the stronger position to negotiate at this time. Any type of extension that he would think of offering would favor Wvu at this time. He could offer something that was incentive based meet a,b,c and get D fail to meet these its null and void. I think Dana would have to put together a couple of 9+ wins seasons to totally get off the hot seat and to attract attention from other schools to have any type of bargaining power

My apologies, I read your post in a different light than you wrote it. I am not sold that anything short of winning the conference will keep Dana his job. The problem for Dana is that next year is a much tougher year than this last one, in spite of the October gauntlet we had in 2015. OOC steps up and the team is less in every aspect for 2016 than it was 2015. There is ZERO development going on for the players and some seem to be retarding.

The question is, is there anything that could happen on 1/2/2016 to get ThePunish-EER and wbgvwbgv to take off their knee pads...
That will never happen for those two (one?) posters. They toss around names and are the worst at backing up anything remotely called an argument on this board. Opinions are nice and all, but these two think what they say is etched in stone and we are fools for not adhering to it. That is a schizophrenic quality.

I would say the results will actually be on 1-3-2016 since the game won't be decided till after midnight.

My response to the original poster was to remind him and anyone else that the Game should be a winnable one especially if 7-5 WVU....is really that 9-3 or 10-2 Big East team that people think 7-5 in the Big 12 translates into. Plus if our coach is really just misunderstood and working hard to make us competitive then he should be trying to win the game. I remeber the Pinstripe though and Liberty bowls though.

Now that Chip Kelly is available does a blowout change things?

If WVU hasn't at least contacted his agent by now, I would be pissed. He would be outside his recruiting area, but you could put Saban at UCLA and the recruits would flock there. Chip can make his own recruiting. Maybe 3-4 coaches in CFB can say that.

If Chip was interested and didn't want to sit out a whole season, I GUARANTEE YOU a few boosters would put the funds together to make this work.

I can officially say I've never been embarrassed top be a WVU fan...ever. That Pinstripe Bowl was the closest I ever got to that point.

The Pinstripe Bowl came to my mind, too. I believe the AD the Holgs is back - regardless - in 2016.
But that bowl game against Syracuse.... we played like we had just woke up... gotten out of bed... and drove to the stadium having never practiced nor watched Syracuse game film.
