This is not an anti-Neal post, but after today’s performance, I have to wonder if the thought of seeing my beloved Mountaineers ever be competitive with the elites is done. During Nehlan’a and Rich’s tenures, and even a couple of years while Dana was here, we would sometimes have teams that could compete and sometimes beat anyone. It didn’t happen every year, but our “good” teams could. This is supposed to be one of our “good” teams with a 5th year senior QB and a lot of returners from a 9-4 season, but what I saw today was a team that was not remotely competitive with Penn State. Outside of convincing Saban to come for a few years, I honestly am not sure I’ll ever see another Mountaineer team that is a legitimate top 10 contender. Again this isn’t anti-Neal, but more of a reflection about can anyone do it given the new landscape of college football.
