Is enough pressure being placed on Holgrosen?

How much pressure is Coach Holgrosen under? Is every game a must win? How many loses are acceptable for HC Holgrosen this season?

Does a BYU loss signal the end before the conference games are even played?

Why is mediocrity in the Big XII ok with some fans?

Better question.

How come fans don't apply the same standards to the quality of life in their home state as they do the football program?

Right now, WV wishes it could be mediocre. It's in a state of emergency.

Let's demand some excellence!!

Good point. If WVa was as good as WVU football and basketball, let alone rifle, we'd be a top-rated state. Amazing just how good WVU sports are, given the state's population and resources.

Some fans are just insecure and need reassurance in the form of wins. Enjoy the good years, move in from the bad ones. Fans don't have any control over the outcome of the game.

We had 8 wins last year, I think we can get 9 this season. Things aren't all that bad. If Dana is let go, we'll see what the next guy can do.

We have a competitive disadvantage in the B12. We didn't dominate the Big East until Miami and Virginia Tech left.

Take a look at Pitt's 2015 schedule and compare it to the schedule we've played the last two seasons.

IMO, if we played Pitt's schedule from last year, we win 10 games.

Why do you always say this? You can read everyone's minds as to why they want more wins from the football program? Pretty impressive considering the amount of WVU football fans out there, not even considering all the other fans of other football teams in the country alone that want to win more.

So football fans who want to win are insecure and need reassurance in the form of wins. Got it. Going back to my life now, none of which is affected by the outcome of WVU football games, yet I still want to win more, guess Im special.

Check out Keenan Cummings post below on Asst. Coaching Experience with DH. It's a bit of an eye-opener as it addresses an area that he has taken some criticism for in the past on mid-game adjustment. Also making adjustments to the way the OC operates with him as well as other offensive coaches. I'd say that's a big indication that he knows this may be his most important season at WVU.

Excellent, excellent point. I'm all in with this kind of thinking. I am personally offended when some blabber-mouthed politician (like Joe Manchin) or community leader talks about the "great" state of West Virginia. It's like they believe if they say it enough times people will believe.

Frankly .... like an alcoholic must face the fact that he is an alcoholic..... the leaders and people of West Virginia must face the fact and admit that West Virginia is in fact NOT a great state. It's quite the opposite. Sure ... it's a state of great beauty and there are great people here and there .... but by virtually every substantial measurable you can find WV is simply near the bottom of the pile.

So yeah ..... when are the citizens of WV going to start evaluating the business and social climate of WV with the same degree of interest as they do with the football program, an entity which will not greatly affect the true welfare of WV?

I've said many times in years past I sure wish that we would hurry up and win a national championship in football or basketball so that the people of WV would actually find out that nothing will really change in West Virginia.

I want to win more too. That's not the point.

It's a given that fans always want their team to win, that mostly goes without saying.

My disagreement is with the, "accepting mediocrity", line that gets pushed ad nauseam. It's not ours to accept or reject. First off, mediocrity is subjective. LSU thought Les Miles was a mediocre coach who should have been fired. Most of the country felt different. So there's no shortage of ridiculousness in college football and it's fueled by insecurity.

It's just dumb fan speak.

If WVU goes undefeated, their lives don't change. They don't improve or get worse, but people seem to believe that demanding extra wins somehow makes them men of high standards....when in reality these guys sleep with a breathing machine so they don't die at night.

What they don't get, and probably never will, is that WVU, the athletic programs and the University overachieves at every level. We should be on the athletic level of Idaho or Wyoming.

Sometimes you need to put accomplishments and expectations into perspective.

I would say there is plenty of pressure on Holgorsen. Just because he's not seen walking around looking worn out and frayed all the time doesn't mean he doesn't feel pressured. Look at people like Eli Manning. He internalizes it and goes about his business.

If Dana has a good or great season, perhaps 9-10 wins (although I think we get 8-9), do you think Dana takes another job?

I think he leaves.

How should we increase the pressure on Dana?

Perhaps Lyons can invite Terry Bowden to stand on the sidelines for the Kansas State game?

Perhaps we should all dye our hair orange and block the exit to I-79 in protest of our 2-0 start?

Dana is not under any pressure. He already has bankrolled many megabucks and is set for life! Where is the pressure?

Hmmm? 2-0 is "mediocre"? For who exactly?

WVU has a tough opponent coming up this week and a long season of tough opponents.

Get this cr@p off the boards and support the program.

I dont think anyone is saying there has been anything wrong with how the current season has started. This team is still largely an unknown. Weve had teams that have come out and blown the doors off of the opening opponents that barely made bowl games, and weve had a team struggle against a soon to be 1 win team opening weekend that went on to win a BCS bowl against an SEC team and a beginning to an unprecented 7 year era of great football. You dont know anything until the measuring stick games happen.

Oh, for heaven's sake!! Surely you are smart enough to not really mean this sort of rubbish. SURELY. There IS more to life than simply the bottom line on a bank account.

Among the dumbest posts I have encountered recently. Really; you WANT to INCREASE pressure on Dana and further increase the chances that he and the staff will be gone next year? REALLY? You want to trade Dana and this staff for Terry Bowden and his staff? Terry's team beat Marshall, and now he has become the hot replacement. WOW. I, do, believe that Dana will not be at WVU next year. Mr. Lyons has done all he can do, short of directly firing him, to make him want to search for another position. If the record is poorer than some arbitrary limit , possible known ONLY by Mr. Lyons, he will be fired. IF he overachieves and has a very good season, he will search out any other green pasture where he has a receptive fan base and a leader on whom he can depend--neither is prominent at WVU for him.

EERdoc..................................I am actually that stupit! Still, I have TorontoEERs send Holgs a couple of buckets of my world famous pickles every game week. I also gave the PaperBoy a job up in Michigan picking the pickles just to get him out of the WV football fans hair. So, there you have it. Warez

Can you forward an English translation? I am having difficulty navigating the gibberish version.

We have a competitive disadvantage in the B12

It is this belief that holds the Mountaineer program back. Accepting a grade of "C" instead of striving for better by relying on excuses.

Now having said that you do have a point...growing perception that the Mountaineers are a perpetual middle of the pack program does hurt our chances I believe. If 8-4, 7-5 or 6-6 is the new definition of success for WVU football then enjoy endless trips to the Cactus Bowl.

I speak gibberish --- let me translate:

"EERdoc, my good man. Surely you can't take me for stupid when I am master of a vast pickle empire of world renown? Both I and my partner, TorontoEERS, have pledged to ensure that the WVU coaches are well supplied with the finest of our product. As further proof of our industriousness and good will, we have employed yet another solid WV fan, wvpaper, at our Michigan facility to provide not only the finest product available, but also to temper his ministrations on this site. It is in keeping with our fine Mountaineer traditions. Warez."

What the hell, the Ancient Sportswriter might as well chime in:

Right on. Remember the 5-0 start with Geno, Tavon and Stedman, the best offense trio in WVU history? Well, it finished 7-6 and leading Heisman candidate Geno was hardly in the mix for that at the end.

Right and wrong.

Our horrendous per capita income won't change. Our national top 3 in obesity, heart disease and cancer won't change.

But WVU is so important to the people of West Virginia because it makes us feel good every time the Mountaineers win. A national title would create a euphoria that would be unbelievable among West Virginians and expatriates like me in Ohio.

So it's not it doesn't matter in the lives of West Virginians whether WVU wins or loses. It matters a lot. And it helps distract them from their lives for a few hours. Is that so bad?

Pressure! Pressure! Pressure! What's pressure got to do with?

The best DH can do is teach, prepare, and make good in-game decisions. Other factors (talent level and coaching help) are already set for the season. I guess he can also tightly hold onto a rabbit's foot?

Let it roll and see where it goes.

A lot of opinions in this thread. That was the idea in regards to my original post. Some I agree with others I do not.

I set the trap and the usual suspects jump in with both feet. Lol
