Is Dana a candidate to take over UM?

In Campbell’s eyes, it’s much the same logic for Holgorsen. Yes, he’s set to make close to $3 million next season. And yes, he’s gotten West Virginia to bowl games in three of his four seasons at the school.
But according to Campbell, that last stat might prove to be Holgorsen’s ceiling. It simply isn’t easy to win at West Virginia thanks to the inherent disadvantages that joining the Big 12 created.
“Dana’s not going to win at West Virginia and he knows it,” Campbell said. “Dana is in the Big 12. He can’t win in that s**t. ... He can’t win playing against Texas and TCU and Baylor and all them.”
It’s one thing for a coach to have the deck stacked against him, but it’s another for Campbell to throw a name like Holgorsen’s out there. After all, he has no apparent ties to Miami, after cutting his teeth as an offensive assistant at places like Texas Tech, Houston, Oklahoma State and now West Virginia.
But in asking “Why Holgorsen?” you come to find out just how deeply connected Campbell is to the Miami football scene.
“Dana has two coaches (on his staff) already (that are from Miami),” Campbell explains. “He has (Ja’Juan) Seider from Belle Glades, and he has the other guy who used to be the head coach at Miramar, (Damon) Cogdell.”
Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for UM to rely on an 80s rapper as its headhunter.
I also doubt Dana would appreciate Luther saying Dana knows he can't win at WVU. Are we to believe Dana just vented to Campbell about how tough it is and he knows he can't win? Dana may not be the brightest bulb, but he's not that stupid.
Even if we assume they did talk at some point, it would seem likely the only purpose for talking football would be to get Campbell to put in a good word for WVU with some clueless player who might listen to Campbell. In that context talking about being unable to win would seem a poor recruiting tactic.

I believe Holgorsen can compete for a Big 12 championship at WVU especially if he keeps those Florida recruits coming here. He has already beaten Texas, OSU, ISU, Baylor, TT, Kansas, and TCU. He also won a Big East Championship ( for those that think that is a great achievement ) and destroyed Clemson in the Orange Bowl. He needs more play makers for a Big 12 schedule.
Ignoring the 24/7 Marshall trolls and low information fans and all the silliness on this free board, Dana gives us the best chance of competing in the Big 12. Lyons and Gee both know it.

Dana likes it at WV and enjoys coaching the Mountaineers and the megabucks he is paid. But, if Miami offers Dana the HC job there...............he will not walk................he will run for the money at Miami. He can drink Red Bull and coach football in bermuda shorts year round in Miami. I can assure you he will not be getting his pickle allotment if he goes to Miami. TorontoEERs will see to that!

Actually Campbell is a big-time booster for UM and is well-connected at the U and in the community. I would not be at all surprised if Dana were offered the job.
Big-time booster and a person anyone with an IQ over 67 would take seriously as an advisor on such a critical decision are two very different things. I'm pretty sure the administration at Miami has a few of those.

I absolutely agree that if Miami were to offer Dana he'd bolt and you really couldn't blame him. If JaJuan or Damon recruited a top south Fla QB for Dana & got WRs, he could go back to his Air Raid roots and bring havoc to the ACC coastal. & obviously it'd be better to try your luck at Miami then sweat out another year on the hot seat at West Virginia, IF he makes it there in the first place.

The writer is buttering him up huge in hopes of getting a possible scoop later from Campbell on Miami's new hire, which also impacts the program from whence the hire came. The writer is basically presenting a thesis that Campbell is more than a fan and here's why we should believe it and consider every word the guy says. The name dropping in there is a bit much. If Strong or Holgorson is coaching at Miami next year then it will be for less money than they both make now. They may do it since the lifeline of taking a new job may be longer than the time they have remaining in there current situation. I could see why Miami might want strong he had success with Louisville but can't understand why they would want holgorson
I have to agree that Miami is a goldmine for the right coach.If Dana could recruit 90% of his team in his own back yard, which is an extremely fertile area for players, I would have to say that he would be crazy to not seriously consider it if offered.

Dana has made enough already to be set for life. He has that great house out on Cheat Lake that his dad and brother built for him. I think he really likes the Morgantown area now and that would be a big factor in his decision to leave or stay.
My money is on him being here at least until 2018 and after that it will depend on how competitive WVU has becomes in the Big 12. Just like Nehlen who was going to leave several times for another job, but ended up staying for 20 years before retiring.

You believe he's the best? And what has given you that confidence? He is 11-30 in the Big 12, correct? This is year #5 overall and he's not got anything consistently going. How long are you willing to give him? Twenty years? Thirty maybe?
