Ford Childress beat Georgia State in 2013.

All other FBS wins under Dana came with transfer QB's and QB's recruited by Stewart starting. (Geno Smith)

had some promising dual threat QB JC players that never stayed or never played because of higher profile transfer QB's.

Not once throughout his entire stint with WVU did Holgorsen have a quarterback that he recruited at the high school ranks start more than three games in a season.

Im not sure why it matters. You put the best QB you have on the field, who cares where they come from.

If QB's dont play, they leave.

I wonder with the transfer rules if that has become the preferred method of recruiting qbs. Very few HS qbs turn out to be Marc Bulger or Geno Smith in terms of arm talent right out of the gate. I say those guys cause they could pass and had multiple successful seasons passing in passing offenses.

In the last 25 years Are those the only 2 passing qbs who gave 3 seasons or more throwing the pill? I think so. It’s hard to find that guy.
 
Oklahoma, LSU, and Ohio St has done pretty good with transfers at the QB position so I don’t seee the complaining about Dana being someone who brings in transfers at the QB position. That’s how the QB position is now, and no one wants to wait around 3 years to have a competent QB.

Hell, Bill Snyder made his career thriving off transfers.

The issue will be if WVU can ever re-establish a good running game because last year might have been the worst I’ve ever seen.

"Grass Roots" Recruiting
was never a strength of Holgerson .
Innovative Offense, yes Holgerson was fun to watch.

But ultimately to coach long term at West Virginia, Recruiting has to be #1 priority.

In other words, With Neal Brown - looks like WVU finally replaced Don Nehlen

Holgerson let natural Recruiters leave.

with a massive divorce.

Dana did just get a decent high school recruit.
Ole Miss really wanted him at QB. But told Kiffin no and committed to Houston

Maybe because the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles is shut down he has more time to recruit.
 
You go HS route so you can build depth at QB position. Transfers are fine but if you don't get one it's always nice to have a guy in the system for 4 years or 5. You should always recruit at least 1 or 2 QB a year out of HS that you know will develop. You also get a couple walk on QB's.

Transfers can be great but if you don't get one your screwed. Holgorsen failed at getting a HS QB and developing him. I use to think the same what difference is it. But you saw last year did you not.

Dana got plenty of decent QB recruits at WVU. He just had no idea how to develop one. Nor could the QB coaches.

wrong again. take a look at the QB play. dude couldn't play, but week after week...after week...dude was put under center....dude gets replaced...and we looked good....
 
Along those little lines, when was the last time we had a serviceable backup QB? Kendall may be the best we’ve had there since Geno backed up J Brown.

Brown backed up Geno,
the other way around.

Geno was a 3 year starter, I believe.
Brown started one year when Geno departed
 
No he signed as a free agent in 2010. I think to the 49ers. No way he backed up Geno.

Brown backed up Pat White and was a one year starter. Geno backed up Brown when Geno was a freshman.

Millard backed up Geno, after Geno it was Millard/Childress/Trickett
 
Still waiting on why if they were out of High School mattered.

Bottom line is Trickett, Howard and Grier were all 3 really good Qbs that Holgorsen recruited.

Out of High School is an irrelevant issue. It's like saying an NBA player from Europe and not a American born and bred kid is somehow a negative.

if not for a Lightening and rain delay.

Brown and his staff had to had to start molding a new starting quarterback. That’s a tough spot for a first-year coach. That had not happened since 1966 when Carlen was head coach. He went 3-5-2 in 1966. Tom Digon got most of the starting work that year, though Bob Zambo and Pete Secret also saw action. History shows an experienced quarterback helps a first-year coach a great deal, though it’s not a guarantee of success. Cignetti 5-6, Nehlen was 6-6 and Fraud Rod was 3-8.

We looked good because the defense was finally stopping people what did we score in Doege 2 wins? 17 and 24 pts. The run game was non existent. Dude was injured and won 3 games. Demolished NC State at home. Kendall is not a bad QB. Doege is better at keeping the pocket alive kind of like Trickett did.

Like I said before Transfers are good but if you don't find one it's going to hurt more than help.
 
Kendall had a lot of issues last year throwing a deep ball and throws that were +10 yards.

See offensive line. See Kendall getting rid of the ball early before being pummeled to the ground. If you're not mobile when you have a the worst offensive line in college football then you're a sitting duck.
 
That is life of a QB. To use an old term..Shell shocked. Some players can get punched in the mouth and shake if off.
Doege has that ability. Always good to look at the body language of a QB after turnovers and sacks. More than that look at the body language of the team.

Doege is an legit NFL QB candidate,
and if Doege has a good 2020 season, Doege COULD leave early.

One gets pummled if one doesn't know what they're doing. Funny how all those issues vanished when dude got replaced.

Confidence doesn't go away.
Has nothing to do about being a pro QB or whatever. It is the fact that he doesn't allow things outside of himself to control things inside of him.
A lot of QBs allow this to happen. Reason why they can look good and then turn to shit quickly.

Well let's wait and see,
he didn't transfer not advance his QB career.

Doege has obvious intangibles,
that AK does not.
Doege has savy, has instincts especially in the pocket and on the move.

His short passes, mid range game and deep balls shows NFL potential and promise.
WVU WR roster is deep in young talent- speed quickness., yes Holgerson could recruit WRs.
Doege has Nice nice nimble feet.

Now for the,
the OLine to hold their water.
 
He transfered because his brother and Mike Jinks were fired at Bowling Green and he couldn't get a scholarship to USC.
Both Jinks and his brother are at USC now.
Luckily Brown had a relationship with his Dad and Brother.

One step at a time. Needs to improve a lot of his game to be considered a NFL QB. Best thing Brown did was open up the competition. Possibly made Doege feel the need to improve.

Brown coached his brother at Texas Tech, that's why Doege transferred to WVU.

His brother was on the staff at Bowling Green under Mike Jinks
Graham Harrell brought both of them to USC when he got the OC job.
Only reason Doege was at Bowling Green was his brother. If he could have followed his brother he would have.

I was impressed with Doege.

My impression with Doege vs the others. Doege is a Div1 starter.

AK is a backup.

Greene is a college freshman, per say.
