This current group of linebackers...as a whole will be THE best ever in our program's history...and I'm including those fabulous groups from the mid 90's as well as the '88 group. '05 group, and the '07-'08 group. Why do I say this?
Look at some of the recent quotes about these guys from either current players, Coaches, or observers in the media:
Shaq Pettaway "best I've ever felt, bigger & stronger than in the past showing more pop than ever."
Jared Barber "better than before I got hurt"
Kwit: "more comfortable than ever with our scheme... just like having another Coach out there"
Al Rasheed Benton: "expected to be an impact player starting to make his presence felt"
Xavier Preston: "could be our best ever, as good as any starter in the Big 12"
Eddie Muldrow: "will battle Pettaway for starting position, one of the fastest on the outside we've ever had"
Isiah Bruce: " will be hard to keep off the field, most experienced of the group with Kwit"
David Long: "he just keeps making plays, will see the field early and often"
Sean Walters:"gets better every time he comes out"
Hodari Christian:"opening eyes and probably will challenge for a starting role before the season is over"
I mean if you just look at the depth, talent, and experience of this group it is hard for me to think of a time when we've had a better collection of linebackers on the team at the same time. In our Defense, it doesn't work without some stud linebackers. We have a stable of 'em!
