Southern Miss was not ranked any time close to when Marshall beat them. The earliest I saw Southern Miss ranked was in Week 8, they were #25 in the Coaches Poll.

Yeah, that's why you aren't very smart. So if Georgia Southern had been the preseason #1, you beat them the first week and they go 0-12 do you consider that a win over a ranked team? Conversely, if GSU is un ranked to start the year, you beat them the first game and then they go on to finish 12-1 and ranked number 10, did you beat a ranked team?
The reason it took USM so long to get ranked is because we beat them. They went 12-2 and beat a 12-0, top 15 ranked Houston in the CUSA championship. Well actually they crushed Houston in that game.
