Sounds like Hamrick is having trouble making ends meet in the Herd athletic department because the football team is so terrible no one wants to see it.

It's probably going to be like that for a few years at least- why not use that to Marshall's advantage? In fact why not make that Marshall's thing? I would argue it would be good for the state and Marshall if Hamrick didn't bother trying to make Herd football better. Instead he should work on making it as terrible as possible.

If I'm Hamrick I'd gut the football program, and then get on the phone selling dial-a-losses to power schools. Sell two slaughters a year for like $600k each and BOOM Marshall's AD department money woes are solved!!!

Think about it- Marshall is never going to be the best at this level- but to become a perennial bottom feeder? To always compete for the worst team in the country? Fight for that #1 spot on the bottom 10 every week? Marshall could do that. And being that bad all the time is in a way kind of impressive. Marshall could be a household name!! Don't try for top 10 plays- try to get a not top 10 play every week. People would tune in all around the country to watch a comedy show of a football game!!

Any herd fans have Hammy's contact info? Feel free to share this idea with him.

But you're not, you're just a retard as your handle perfectly suggests

On a more reasonable note, the best thing for Marshall in my opinion would be for them to get back in the Mid America Conference where they truly were a good fit. Savings in travel costs alone could help offset their budgetary problems and the MAC TV rights pay more than CUSA does. Old rivalries could be renewed, the games would be on TV again, and they could once again play for championships. Marshall moving to CUSA has proven to be a huge mistake and it gets worse with each passing week as that conference hosts some of the lowest ranked football teams in all of FBS. Moving up to a conference that doesn't allow props is not an option for the Herd who relies so heavily on them. So if I were to offer my advice to Mike Hamrick it would be to get back to where your team could compete and stay the hell off of twitter where you are alienating the fans that aren't able to be big donors. Just my two cents worth.

I don't think Marshall would be a viable option for the MAC. First of all, I've read where a good portion of the Herd fanbase feels Marshall is 'too good' for the MAC, despite head to head results dictating otherwise over the last few years. Others have pointed out that The American wouldn't be a good option as well, again, due to the not being a very good conference. Haven't you read that C-USA is full of all of these future powerhouse 'up & coming' programs with tons of potential? Just wait for it. The Alphabet Florida schools are one day going to dominate the state of Florida. That's FAU & FIU. Old Dominion and Charlotte, two teams that didn't even play D1 football the last time Snow Sled got laid, well, they're sitting on a gold mine, so look for them to skyrocket up the rankings in the near future.

Oh, and don't sit idly on the Southwest members. There's no doubt that the University of Texas (in san antonio), Rice, University of Texas (in el paso), and the University of Texas (north) are truly on the rise.

C-USA

I've also read where the Herdiots think they are too good for the MAC.........I laugh every time they post that silly shit. As for the American, it's not an option for Marshall since they don't allow their teams to take the prop players that Marshall depends on so heavily. The fact is that Marshall is going down the tubes in CUSA, can't afford to stay in it and can't afford the buyout to get out of it, their administration is turning against the every day fan, and the everyday fan is not happy and it shows in the attendance numbers. Going back to the MAC could cure a lot of problems in Herdzakistan.

Let's be honest here. The Herd is not in the American because you have to first be invited to join. I believe had they been invited during the inception of the conference, then they would have gone. Assuming no financial help is given (waving of conference exit and entry fees), then there's no way they could jump to the AAC, even if they were invited (which won't happen). What many don't understand, is that it takes money to make money. WVU is certainly a prime example of that, with the move to the Big 12. They made very little the first few years, but now they're getting the dividends of making the move. I tried pointing this out to the head-in-sand fans over on another forum, but they wouldn't have no part of it. If you check out the AAC payouts, they're head & shoulders above C-USA, and that was prior to the $200K deal recently signed. What folks don't get is that the schools in AAC do pretty good financially with revenues they receive from the NCAA basketball tournament. That's a 4-6 team bid league.

All that being said reinforces my point - CUSA and Marshall are a bad fit, the MAC was better for the Herd. The payout is better, the travel is easier and far less expensive, and there are regional rivalries that make good sense, and Marshall could get back to what they pride themselves in, playing for championships. And even if it was a mid week game Marshall would get national TV exposure as compared to these days when you have to have Play Station and pay a fee to see them play.

The argument about not wanting to play on weekdays is lame as hell, particularly if you're a G5 team. I can understand P5 teams not wanting to do so, but even they can pack a house during a weekday. I mean, think about it. Marshall is playing Florida Atlantic at whatever time you want to show it on a Saturday. How many people are going to tune in to watch that game, when you have a dozen or so other games to watch? Granted, folks will find something else to watch on Thursday nights, but folks that want to watch some college football will still watch at least parts of the game. Hell, I watched a good portion of a MAC game the other night, granted, it was the local team WMU playing Ball State, but still, I would have likely watched some of it regardless, even had it been Northern Illinois and Bowling Green.
