and still is,.....the Soutwest Conf was huge....Arky...OU....Texas...glad to be a part of the new BIG12....

Charter members (1914) of the Southwest Conference:

Arkansas
Baylor
Oklahoma
Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State)
Rice
Southwestern (in Georgetwon, TX)
Texas
Texas A&M

OU left in 1919, and Oklahoma A&M left in 1925.

Just to add stats for the Big 8's sake;

Kansas, Iowa, Washington U (St. Louis), Nebraska and Missouri were the charter Big 8 members in 1907. Iowa left after a few years, Drake joined in 1908 along with Iowa State. Grinnell College was in from 1918-1928 and Drake left the same year. Kansas State joined in 1913. OU was 1919 as mentioned before. Oklahoma A@M was in from 1925-1928 but left for the Missouri Valley Conference I believe. They didn't rejoin the Big 8(Big 7 at the time) until 1957. Colorado joined in 1947.

Couple notes to point out, 1928 was a big year as Washington U, Drake, Grinnell and Ok A@M all left.

With Missouri leaving this year, that make Kansas the oldest member and only founder left of the original conference.
