it is possible for a true WVU fan to be happy about the 8-2 record and miserable about the pratfalls against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

I know I am.

But that's behind us.

So I'm rooting like mad for my alma mater to beat Iowa State, which whipped Texas Tech, and then Baylor, which once was 6-0 alongside the Mountaineers.

And then romp in the bowl game, wherever it is.

Well I am happy. It would have been icing on the cake to beat one of the Oklahoma teams. But 8-2 is far above what many fans said WVU would be this late in the season. We are not Ohio State and would have a tough time with Houston and perhaps a loss depending on which Houston team decided to show up. So yes I am happy at 8-2. Will be even happier if we don't blow the next 2.

If we have yet another collapse/losing streak especially with our final two opponents, this season will still smack of a bit of failure. 1-1 won't be as bad, but we can't end the season losing three straight and be able to say we feel good about it.

Not everything is black and white as some folks want to make it. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised by this season. At the beginning if you would have told me WVU would be 8-2 and have had a shot at the Big XII title in the second half of league play, I'd have said you were too optimistic. It doesn't mean that I am not somewhat disappointed by the fact that the Big XII is down this year and perhaps this team's record would be the same as last years version if the schedules were the same. It also doesn't mean I'm not irritated that the offense, which returned so many starters, is not any better than last year. If you had told me at the beginning of the season that the defense would only give up an average of 20 and some change points per game, I'd say that WVU would have no excuse NOT to be 9-3 as the defense was supposed to be the sore spot. So, WVU still has a chance to make this the most successful season during WVU's Big XII tenure which is better than I expected. I also think the coaching staff has made some strides. Still have some sore spots such as fundamentals (ball security, proper tackling technique}, strength/conditioning, keeping focus over being rattled. Unlike last few seasons, I think this season is more of a lack of skill positions versus coaching approach. Smarter QB play and a QB that can be a true threat over the shallow middle along with some more stout D-linemen would have been of great benefit to this team.

I'm happy, with what we had to replace it's amazing how we reloaded and are likely a better team than last year. Very good sign when a program does that
