I would just love to know how we get ourselves tethered to poor performing coaches. Brown is tied for 3rd in tenure in the Big 12 with Klieman and behind Whittingham and Gundy but has not had any of the success of those other three.
No other school would hold onto Brown for that long or Dana for 8 years.
Kansas hired Les Miles the same year we hired Brown. Miles lasted 2 year.
Matt Wells at Texas Tech also hired the same year as Brown. He lasted 2 and half seasons. Wells beat Brown and was fired two weeks later if that tells you how little respect there is for our program in the Big 12.
Other programs can move on from coaches. Ones weaker and with less resources than ours.
Everyone agrees Brown needs to go. Heck that was almost uniformally recognized after 2022. Yet here we are talking about keeping him until 2025 not because there is a question about his ability but because “we can’t afford it”?
If the next coach averages 5 or 6 wins, will we be stuck with him too for 7 or 8 seasons?
