How an 8-team playoff would look today

Do you mean an 8 School post season invitational tournament?

As long as there is a committee (picked by a Network) selecting and seeding the schools, it’s not a playoff, it’s a made for tv tournament just like March Madness. Roger Goodell, the tall bald guy running the nba who looks an alien, and even NASCAR have playoffs without a committee. It’s a made for tv tournament. A playoff would make ESPN and the P5 conferences would lose control and finally kill most of the 40 bowl games (when 20 is plenty).

But you have to admit so far they have sucked.
They are batting .200.
2 of the 10 games have been interesting.
2014 Ohio St vs Alabama
2017 Oklahoma vs Georgia

If it is made for televsion they need to pick better matchups.

Everyone wanted to get rid of the BCS and go to a 4 team playoff especially after 2011 but so far this system is horrible.

Be careful what you ask for.

College Football has always been an oddball and this is what makes it so interesting and why people watch every game.

This is why I found it so funny that UCF claims the 2017 NC.

Historians are going to look back at that in 35 years and call that NC legit.
UCF beat Auburn a team who beat Alabama.

No matter what the sport is going to throw you for a loop.

Truthfully I say less teams.
Why add 8 when 4 is worst than 2?

Well post Conference championships would alter this greatly. Is there a formula for that.

The two conferences at the bottom

The PAC and ACC only have one team.

The SEC, Big 12 and B1G are playing quarterfinals.
The winners should be 3 of the 4
If Clemson wins they should get in.
If they lose and Utah wins then Utah.

If they both lose?
That is the question.

Clemson?
Florida?
Oregon?

The best way to ensure an eight-team playoff is a year or two with the four-team playoff not having ohio state or bama.

Alabama doesn't draw the auidence that many think it does.
It is a small state.

Ohio State does. They have a few of the games in the Top 10 in Ratings the last 30 games.

The CFP committee wouldn't lose any sleep if Alabama didn't play.

How college football would look today if ESPN hadn't finalized its purchase of it, called it a "playoff" and pretended like the selection process was actually legit, and destroyed any remaining level of parity, or meaning for any non making them money school to levels worse than the days of unlimited scholarships and no rules. That would be a better chart, except it will now forever be a fictional dream. Bought, paid for, passed off as legit like the Hillary Clinton Russian dossier. Welcome to the Disney, ABC, espn world of sports control

I don't think P5 conferences would lose control, because of their schedules and strength of so many teams in these conferences, they'll always be on top of the G5 schools.

It is a sham of a playoff though--the network and media pick their darlings and try to find ways to exclude everyone else.

To much crap and politics involved. BCS was a better system. Playoffs started so talking idiots could plug their so called big name teams. There will always be an excuse why a team like Baylor, TCU or WVU, so forth and so forth...shouldn't make it.

Call anything you want. Top 8-16 teams and winner is National Champ. There has been many years that the best team wasn’t National Champ. Just like years out there when Super Bowl Champ might not be the best team.
