Boren makes a comment now every "insider" has the/a scoop. There isn't a single one of them however that has any insight into UT academic world. UT is Ivy League academically. Only Ivy league with 5X enrollment and better BBQ. The UT board could give two shits about where UT athletics play. The only people that pay any attention to this non noise is people who can make a few quarters from it.
UT isn't going anywhere. OU couldn't make UT move the first time and it won't be able to do it the future. UT would take all of the Texas schools and start it's own league. Everyone not named T&M will fall right in line and be happy about it. Every league has it's power brokers, Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame ..... every league. Unfortunately these are the facts and at least not in my lifetime WV will never be one of them.
The UT endowment is larger than the GDP of more than half the worlds countries. The only people that get excited about all of this are people that have no clue about where academics fall in all of this. Austin, TX is Silicon Valley part II. It continues to produce companies that are only found and funded in Silicon Valley.
Athletics and conferences talk in tens of millions. UT academics talk in the billions. UT currently is nearly finished raising an additional BILLION dollars to their already massive endowment. Not one cent will go to the athletic dept. In fact the athletic dept is so overflowing with cash they just gave in the neighborhood of close to 17 million back to the university foundation this past year.
