went blind in my left eye with no warning about a week ago......had a tear in my retina that was repaired by freezing and creating scar tissue to heal it...AFTER they stuck a big needle in my eye to numb it.....until today haven't been able to drive, read , use computer, text, or anything except watch TV (watched a "say yes to the dress" marathon...that's how bored I was).....got released today for some activities but it will be weeks before my vision completely returns. I have missed you folks. I have a new appreciation for good health and will try not to take it for granted anymore...damndest thing is I experienced no trauma that should have caused it

Same thing happened to a good friend of mine this past summer. He was at Myrtle Beach, first day there, and all of a sudden he couldn't see out of one eye. He ended up having to stay down there for a few extra days (beyond the week), just so he could drive home to WV, because his wife couldn't drive his truck which was pulling his trailer. Had surgery and I think he couldn't do too much for 2 or 3 months, or at least not the things he likes to do, like ride his Harley. He had to wear a Pirate patch for a few weeks as well, so I assume you'll have to do the same. Good news, is that it's as good as new once they repair it.

only had the patch for the first day but it was real hard trying to stare straight ahead.....worst part is we've had 3 days in the high 60's that normally would have found me on the course...my surgeon said could be 4 weeks before normalcy returns....you doing ok?

Wow, that's got to be pretty alarming, especially with no trauma to attribute it to.

Glad you're on the mend. You should be good as new by the time the weather breaks for good.

you doing ok?
Except for the normal old man aches and pains, I'm doing great. As crazy as it sounds, going on a long bike ride this coming Saturday morning. January 21st in Michigan. 50 degrees. Got to take advantage of it, even if it kills me. My buddy that owns the local course is even considering opening on Saturday, but only for a select few. He says we have to carry the flags with us and bring them back in after the round, but he has some beers left over from the summer that he would like to get rid of, so we don't have a problem in helping him out. That's all contingent on whether or not I can walk after the bike ride.

Welcome back to the woodshed. The same thing happened to a former co-worker of mine, and his problem also popped up out of the blue. WVU Hospital took care of his problem, and although it took longer than he had hoped it would he's back on the job and back on his Harley Davidson, and very appreciative that he's got his full vision back (and still without eyeglasses). Best of luck to you in your recuperation. I expect you'll be out on the golf course when spring rolls around......

I've never been in the hospital overnight in my 66 years but in the last 7 months I've had a serious cancer scare, a possible hip replacement (still pending maybe) and this eye thing.....it SUCKS getting old..but I'll tell you..I have a new appreciation for good health and my fellow man...drink a couple of stale beers for me[cheers][cheers]

I won't drink those golf course beers, even if they were fresh. I usually just take my own to his course, or have him buy me some that I like, and then pay him club pricing for them. Once you go craft, it's tough to drink beer flavored water.
