Legion baseball started in WV this weekend....nephew caught both games of doubleheader and threw out 6 of 7 runners trying to steal......4 of 5 to second and 2 of 2 to third
Is this a second nephew of yours that plays catcher? I'm glad that American Legion is back to playing games. I still remember the good old days when my post crossed the border to play at a city park in Parkersburg, which had an Astroturf infield, grass outfield, and large cement light posts in the outfield. I doubt that high school kids would be allowed to play on such a field today, given the fact that you could kill yourself chasing down a fly ball in fair territory. LOL
no...same one....should have clarified...they played their first two games in Ohio......they do play at Parkersburg's home field...they play at Meigs and Stubenville in Ohio in addition to the Wheeling area teams...also St Clairsville Oh....Athens Ohio and MorgantownIs this a second nephew of yours that plays catcher? Now, I'm confused. College players are allowed to play American Legion ball? Yep, that's the same place, and I'd bet that it has changed a lot since the 1980s. Incidentally, my American Legion coach was the Late Ralph Nuzum, who was from Belpre, Ohio (just across the river from Parkersburg) and pitched for Ohio University, where his catcher was Parkersburg's Steve Swisher, one of his best friends. Nuzum, Swisher and former big league pitcher Pete Vukovich did a lot of beer drinking together back in the day.I think you're talking about Parkersburg's City Park........Every summer I'd spend a couple of weeks with my grandparents who lived in Pburg and I can remember them taking me that ball park to watch 4th of July fireworks. Good times from a long time ago. I wonder how much the place has changed over the years.
No change to the park to speak of. They added a water park to the swimming pool.I think you're talking about Parkersburg's City Park........Every summer I'd spend a couple of weeks with my grandparents who lived in Pburg and I can remember them taking me that ball park to watch 4th of July fireworks. yes they are.....he redshirted at Glenville this past year....don't know if that had an effect on this situation. This is his last year of Legion eligibility......I tried out for Parkersburg Post 15 back in the day but was in the last group cutNow, I'm confused. he's catching all single games and the first of every doubleheader...also plays outfield and pitches in relief......the last 2 games only 2 have attempted to steal...word gets around.......how is your son doing?....nephewThose are some good stats for your grandson there.

...tell him to selectively hit a couple every time he pitches......Wild Thing....you make my heart singPlayed his first game last Sunday. Went two innings pitching, struck out 5, hit 2 kids, walked 3, gave up 0 runs and got the W. Throws hard for his age but control is lacking obviously. Hit the ball well, stole home on a pickoff attempt to 1b, he’s greasy fast
