Is that legit? What's your thoughts on it? Should we just go with the popular vote? I mean the Electoral College was created by some of the Founding Fathers who didn't "trust" the common man voting. I'm undecided on whether I like this or not.

Wholly opposed to getting rid of the EC.

I’m reaching back in my memory here, but I believe it was borne from the great compromise between Madison’s Virginia Plan and Patterson’s New Jersey Plan. It was all tied to the bicameral legislature.

This is an attempt to fundamentally alter our Govt.

It was how they got the small states to agree. If it were just popular vote, one or two states would control entire govt

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought it was a compromise between those (Federalists like Alexander Hamilton) who wanted Congress to select the President, while the Anti-Federalists wanted the vote to be popular by citizens.

It’s a power grab by the corrupt Democrat Party
Be careful.......

"President Donald Trump on Thursday voiced support for doing away with the Electoral College for presidential elections in favor of a popular vote because the latter would be “much easier to win.” April 2018

It’s also why there are two senators per state to balance the power .

I've heard that our forefathers thought that politicians would leave government offices to return to family business after a couple of terms in office. Guess that money to be made in government is easier than thought....
No, they thought they’d be in session a month then go back to their homes to make a living.

This is correct. They never imagined being in session for 10+ months. And if I'm not mistaken, the first Congressmen were only paid per diem. Could be wrong about that.

I know, but I'm saying I don't know if the Electoral College compromise was part of the Great Compromise. I didn't believe it was, but could be wrong. I know they are somewhat connected.

I legit may have my facts wrong, so, don’t take what I said as gospel. I thought it was tied in there, but the Great Compromise might just have been part of the establishment of the bicameral legislature.

You could be right, I could be wrong. I'm not trying to make it appear as if I am correct. I just remember the Great Compromise was between New Jersey and Virginia over representation (big vs. small states), and the Electoral College was another compromise over the election of the chief executive. Could be connected.

I don’t base my beliefs and stances on what Trump thinks. I stand by what I said. It’s purely an effort to keep Democrats in office. If they were losing the majority of elections popular vote, they’d be whining to keep the electoral college. The truth is, no matter what party has power, the electoral college was genius. It maintains the ability of all states to have a voice to be heard. Why in the hell would we want California telling West Virginia and rural America what is best for us? Furthermore, why would anyone campaign in rural America. They would all hangout in NY, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, etc. It would also likely cause a civil war eventually as many states would feel abandoned
