Yep, definitely missing him. If WVU had him on the team they could probably beat the number one team in the nation or at the very least be a top 15 team.

I hear that when you tell a guy like Bob Huggins that his school is your dream school......
And then call a week later and tell him you won't commit because 'I want to be a top 100 recruit on ESPN'
(Actually said that)
Then it is tough to swing a commit-able offer from a coach like that.
After what Grantham and his family said, he didn't have the option to come to WVU

huggs could not offer a full scholarship -- for excellent reasons i'm sure. so he encouraged grantham to be a walk-on. it's probably the only thing huggs could offer. then grantham got a full scholarship offer in the acc. his family was sold. end of story.
the good news is clemson is about to knock duke off. clearing our way to a #1 ranking.

Huggs told the Grantham family in December, 2 months before Clemson offered, that as soon as someone transferred out, his scholarship would arrive the next morning, and it did.
This is after Huggs suggested to the Granthams that it would be best if Donte prepped a year----- something they rejected (lol)
April 1 - Attrition happens and Grantham receives his offer the next morning. The rest is in my above post..
Vernon or Keenan can confirm this to be accurate.
If the Granthams wer "sold" on that ACC offer, he never would have went to prep school for another year, trying to earn better offers than .500 Clemson

2 sides to every story. wvu slow played the kid. even you admit this, between the lines of your character assassination. the family thought the kid was way undervalued - i'm sure this is typcial. but in this case, the family was right
i've known the kid since he was 14. you know what you read on the internet. he would have gone to wvu if we were first to offer a full scholarship.

It doesn't matter when WVU offers, if a kid leaves it has nothing to do with the timing of an offer. If a kid leaves for another school it is due to defective DNA and upbringing. I blame it on the parents. There, I said it.
The kid was offered late in the process because Huggs told the family all along he needed to prep. The local alumni pressure plus a state run by Martinsburg led to a late offer when it opened up just like Keaton said(btw...everyone was begging for an offer the family included). He then decided to prep the way Huggs wanted it done all along but by now hard feelings started settling in on both sides and Huggs and the family parted ways.
Everyone in Martinsburg is still trying to figure this one out but as one person said recently, Harris and Henderson were all over the place trashing Huggs behind the scenes with players leaving and maybe it spooked the family. Who knows.
My sense is their is some regret in Martinsburg over how this turned out, and some wish it could be done over.
Sometimes you just have to let things go. Huggins probably did underestimate Grantham early in his career and didn't recruit him as hard as he could have, but Grantham could be at WVU if he wanted. Honestly, a kid who needs his ego stroked to that extent might not thrive under Huggins and maybe it's better for all involved. Grantham got a scholarship to a good school and is playing and we are doing fine without him.
When Everhart started LIVING at Martinsburg HS, December 2012, Grantham's best offer was VMI........

When we took commitments from Adrian and Watkins after their 10th grade years, Grantham was still a 6'3 backup PG for MHS. Same with Macon.

It's truly amazing how for a fly you manage to be on so many walls in so many different places at so many different times.
he has that rare prerequisite length and athleticism. yeh, with his current progression, he has a very good shot to make the nba.
I wish every great in-state player in FB and BB could stay home. The reality is that not every battle in the recruiting arena can be won.

I live in Martinsburg and he was taller then 6' 3" and no one I talked to heard about Ron living in Martinsburg. He didn't need to because the family was begging for an offer (but Huggs wanted him to prep). We gave him the offer late when someone left the team then his AAU coach got involved and convinced him to prep. The guy all over the family during his prep year was the asst coach from Cincinnati. lol, He was sleeping at the house.
Huggs was right, the kid needed to prep a year and he did thus helping to him to develop.
I happen to know Ronnie spent every weekend he could during the season in that town..... Grantham, himself, told WVMetro that he and Everhart were very close

They may have been close but I NEVER herd Ron spending every weekend in Martinsburg and in part it was because we wanted him to prep a year and with no offers we had no concern.
