"Georgia Southern quarterback Kevin Ellison has been ruled academically ineligible by the NCAA for failing to meet the organization's academic requirements for football student-athletes and will be suspended for the Eagles' opening two games, as announced Wednesday by athletic director Tom Kleinlein. The junior from Cornelia, Georgia, will miss the opener at West Virginia (Sept. 5) and the Western Michigan game (Sept. 12)."

They've recently lost other starters for various reasons too.... ...which is why people really should take advantage of the current/recent point spread before it matures (back to the original released).

A number of small schools suspend or hold players out to avoid injuries to players when stepping up in competition for a single game. You don't want key players knocked out for the season because some P-5 leg-breaker has a clean shot and full head of steam. There's entire season to be played, why lose them for the year in a money game?

I don't think the suspensions at GSU are for that reason, they'll play anyone, anywhere, but it happens.

As a matter of fact, I expect Marshall will be announcing suspensions or injuries to certain key players for the Purdue game any day now. When you've got powers like ODU and FAU on the schedule year in and year out, it's not worth the risk.
