Can someone offer an explanation of the difference between a Quiet Period and a Dead Period? I would assume that a Dead Period is no contact with recruits at all, but what is permissible in a Quiet Period?

From NCAA Recruiting By-Laws:

(b) November 27, 2016, through January 28, 2017 [except for (1) and (2) below]:
Six (6) in-person, off-campus contacts per prospective student-athlete shall be permitted during this time period with not more than one permitted in any one calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) or partial calendar week. Contact Period
(1) December 11, 2016, for all junior college prospective student-athletes who intend to enroll midyear: Quiet Period
(2) December 12, 2016, through January 11, 2017: [applicable to all prospective student-athletes (see Bylaw 13.02.5.5.2)]: Dead Period

(c) January 29, 2017: Quiet Period

(d) January 30 through February 2, 2017: Dead Period

Found it, never mind.

What is a quiet period?
During a quiet period, a college coach may only have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents on the college’s campus. A coach may not watch student-athletes compete (unless a competition occurs on the college’s campus) or visit their high schools. Coaches may write or telephone college-bound student-athletes or their parents during this time.

What is a dead period?
During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.
