Football coming up. Should be a great year...

Then everyone can say in football season, "But we are playing with the big boys now." Then the Big 12 will get blown out in the bowl season again. When will it end?

If WVU has a real 'passing QB' instead of a QB trying to pass, it could be interesting. Otherwise, 6 - 6 and bye-bye Coach Holgorsen. It's his decision, but I'm beginning to think he's biased towards Howard whether he can make the short and over the middle throws or not. I love to see the Mountaineers win, but it's his a$$ on the line, not mine.

I moved to Morgantown area in 2009 and every year about this time (when folks are considering season football tickets) stories start appearing
in Motown, Charleston and Clarksburg papers) about how super the various units (defensive line, receivers, running backs, etc) are going to
be. It's started. I suggested that it will be the schedule (Mizzo, Baylor, Oklahoma, TCU) will result in an increase in season ticket sales. BTW
the stories have lied up to this point - SOS from Dana. Hope record is better in the coming season.

If the QB and the WRs are on the same page this year like they should be then I can definitely see 9-10 wins. Especially with WVU's schedule being more favorable this year. If WVU starts out 4-0 then it could be a special year.

Uh-oh..... ....I see the beginning of a 'wasted football season' thread.

If they have a true 'gunslinger' taking snaps this fall, with all of those experienced and fast receivers it could be interesting. I do not care what his name is, just make the freakin' throws to your open receivers or get off the field. If it's a repeat of last year at the QB position, who will be the next head coach?

Skyler had 32 total TDs and nearly 3700 yards with an inexperienced group wideouts. He is fine and I suspect he'll improved on those numbers this year as our receivers mature and our OL gels.

The offense should be better with what we got coming back. It does hinge on who replaces Wendell as compliment back to Shell and Skylar improving his deficiencies as without those two things any O-line improvement and WR improvement won't help much. The big concern is the defense. Who is going to replace the entire LB core? Who is going to play safety as well as KJ and Joseph? The offense needs to be much improved because WVU is likely to give up more points this year than last.

Not making any predictions, but the schedule is the complete opposite of last year -- it sets up perfectly for a fast start in league play. Overall, it's as favorable as any schedule we're likely to see in many years.

Sat., Sept. 3 -- Missouri in Morgantown
Sat., Sept. 10 -- Youngstown State in Morgantown
Sat., Sept. 24 -- BYU in Landover (virtual home game)
Sat., Oct. 1 -- Kansas State in Morgantown
Sat., Oct. 15 -- Texas Tech in Lubbock
Sat., Oct. 22 -- TCU (w/o Boykin) in Morgantown
Sat., Oct. 29 -- Oklahoma State in Stillwater
Sat., Nov. 5 -- Kansas in Morgantown
Sat., Nov. 12 -- Texas in Austin
Sat., Nov. 19 -- Oklahoma in Morgantown
Sat., Nov. 26 -- Iowa State in Ames
Sat., Dec. 3 -- Baylor in Morgantown

Too early to know how everybody else will reload . . . but I'm guessing we'll end up around a 7-5 or 8-4 mark.

I agree. I've seen a lot of people say the schedule is more difficult, and their reasoning is that we wouldn't beat OU, Baylor, KSU, etc home or away so having those games at home is a non factor. They forget we are 2-0 in Motown against Baylor

Missouri sucks and they have a new coach. Their QB just got kicked off the team for doing coke on a public video, we SHOULD win handily.

YSU is a win

BYU should be a win, they have a new coach also. I do expect this to be a close contest in DC.

KU at home is a win and although we haven't beaten them, we've been closer each season; we beat KSU this year.

TCU at home should be a win with Boykin, Doctson, etc gone.

Tech, OSU and UT on the road are going to be tough. I hope we steal one.

I think we split BU and OU at home. Baylor in Morgantown spells disaster for the Bears, especially in December

Iowa State on the road could be tricky. Toss up.

I'm going to say 8-4 before the bowl game. That's a solid season.

Yeah ... at least the football team won't build you up before letting your down like the basketball team did this year.

Skyler had 32 total TDs and nearly 3700 yards with an inexperienced group wideouts. He is fine and I suspect he'll improved on those numbers this year as our receivers mature and our OL gels.

Skyler built most of his positive numbers outside of conference play in 2015. In conference he had too many interceptions, overthrows and too much trying to win games by himself.

The team has at least two much more accurate passers at least one of which knows the offense but is untested in a game. All positions should be wide open during the Spring unless the HC is a fool which I do not believe he is, especially going into his do or die season.

If Howard has overcome his deficits and can complete over 60% of his passes, then 'Go Howard!' If not, sit down and give someone else a chance. Does Howard have to be injured to find out what Chugs can do in a game?. That is very narrow minded. WVU's own Clint Trickett lost the starting spot at FSU during the Spring game to an upstart redshirt freshman.

If Bednarick had not been injured would Pat White have ridden the bench until Bednarick graduated? I have an eyewitness who says Howard is still inconsistent. I hope he's wrong.

Holgorsen has yet to beat Snyder and Stoops. I hope that changes this year, I'm doubtful though.

As a side; I would love to know the level of hate and loathing paper has for Dana. [roll]

I like Dana alright. Some of you guys cannot evaluate his performance because of personal bias. I accept that and I don't bash you for it.. Dana has been bad for WVU football. I want WVU to have a solid football coach. That's all there is to it.

WV will indeed have a 'gunslinger' at the QB position next year. Some folks don't care about the name (any ole gunslinger will do) but I will supply the name for you. Skyler Howard.

If the football team is to turn the corner then this is the year to do it. we have a favorable home schedule we need to smack these bums around when they come to mountaineer field. We need to put the same beat down on these bums that other teams do come bowl season

I hope you're right, if he improves that much. He is a tough little guy with a big heart. As long as he makes the passes!

It IS good to see Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor in the final 4 games. TV must think WVU will be in the mix because they love the later games to be between two or more major contenders for the title.

And alternating between home and away throughout the conference season is a major nod toward WVU by the Big 12.

Now we have to wait 6 months to see what transpires.
And 5 more before I post my tentative acrostic.

The majority of the offense is back and the home schedule is very favorable. This is a great opportunity to have a break through year. Every team in the conference has to replace something from the previous season. The future is now no more excuses

A Montana elk guide once told me, when I was calling him regularly with questions months before the hunt ," just remember anticipation of the hunt is 80 % of the fun". He was right, I have used this axiom with WVU football and basketball since. It's so much more fun to be positive, have faith in the players and coaches.

I tried that with basketball this season and regretted it. Never again.

Well don't worry theres always football season and if things don't go they way we hope there will always be those posters who will come on him and find excuses to explain the underachievement
