-Well, anytime a coach is able to personally scout a prospect and then decides that they like them that's a good sign and that is definitely the case here with West Virginia and Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage athlete Alec Sinkfield. The explosive athlete has long been interested in West Virginia but the Mountaineers were at first hesitant to accept a commitment without him taking a visit to campus. However, after running backs coach JaJuan Seider was able to evaluate him today things moved in a positive direction obviously as the Mountaineers took a commitment from him. I've been told by sources that Seider "loved," what he saw out of Sinkfield and this is a pledge that he is very excited about.

-Sinkfield is a versatile option that could line up at running back or wide receiver. He catches the ball out of the backfield well and can be used at a variety of ways in the West Virginia offense. Sinkfield is a lot like Wendell Smallwood with his dual threat ability but appears to be even more explosive when he gets into the open field. This fits the mold of what Seider has told me several times that he wants to recruit at the position as somebody that is going to be able to fill multiple roles instead of just lining up and running between the tackles. He displays great lateral quickness and vision on film as well.

-West Virginia now will have quite the cupboard of running backs when Sinkfield enters the program. Obviously Rushel Shell will graduate at the end of this year, but the Mountaineers will still have Justin Crawford, Kennedy McKoy and Martell Pettaway as well as Tevin Bush. From what I've been told so far this could be it when it comes to running backs in the current class and that means that there will be at least five scholarship running backs in the program which all have a versatile skill set. It's obvious the way that this is trending when it comes to the position as you will see much more Wendell Smallwood type players in the future. The pathway for playing time will still be there however, as Sinkfield will have opportunities to get on the field due to how versatile he is and how he could fit into multiple roles such as even kick returner or slot receiver if need be.

-This is a quality pickup for West Virginia for a number of reasons but the part that is always most exciting is that this unfolded right after the coaching staff was able to evaluate him in person and get an idea for how he would truly fit into the scheme in Morgantown. He had offers from school such as Miami (Fla.), Kentucky, Pittsburgh and several others and was on the verge of adding even more this spring as he impressed during the evaluation period.
