Eklund, arguably the wackiest rumor-starter in the business, is trying to sell Penguins fans on a notion that GMJR is trying to swing a deal for, of all people, Eric Staal. Here's his comment:

The Penguins have been seeing a lot of money fall away due to long term IR and I am starting to hear strong rumors that they have interest in Eric Staal. It takes a lot of creative accounting, and a deal like this could not happen until much later....you would assume...However, Rutherford is as good as any GM when it comes to making pieces fit and moving player for player...Also Rutherford and Staal are quite familiar with each other...

Of course, even if "a lot of money (is falling) away due to long term IR" the only possible current focus on that subject today would be someone like Dupuis; and he's not making close to Staal's money.

Four slightly more legitimate tidbits this morning:

1 -- Eric Fehr is the first player in NHL history to score short-handed goals in his first two games with a team. BTW, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette blog-story which reported this quoted Fehr as saying his elbow feels "great"......and that he's wearing a wrap solely to "keep it from cooling off" and that it's something he'll have to "do for awhile".

2 -- Beau Bennett reportedly is up to the top line with Sid and Dupuis, while Hornqvist has been moved to the 3rd line with Bonino and Kunitz. I get the impression this is less about Hornqvist and more about Bennett, who we all know is easily playing the most inspired hockey of his career thus far this season. FYI, the morning paper states this move is in keeping with Mike Johnston's preference for 2-man (rather than 3-man) forward combinations; his three top pairs are said to be Sid/Duper, Geno/Kessel, and Bonino/Kunitz.

3 -- Danny Sprong's ELC has officially kicked-in as of the Edmonton game.

4 -- Carey Price reportedly visited a specialist in NYC yesterday for his LBI, and is expected to be out "several more games"

EUELL: I HONESTLY DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE; SO MANY OF THE "TIDBITS" I POST HERE REGARDING THE PENS MAY INDEED BE SOMETHING YOU KNOW ABOUT BEFORE I POST THEM HERE (THAT IS, IF YOU READ THE PITTSBURGH MORNING PAPERS BEFORE ME....OR ELSE WATCH LOCAL PITTSBURGH SPORTS ON THE TUBE).

IN ANY EVENT, PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES FOR WASTING YOUR TIME IF THAT'S THE CASE [thumb2]

Cool Man,
I live in mountains of WV. I do not get the local Pittsburgh stations so I very much appreciate all of the tidbits. I am overwhelmed by the hockey IQ of guys like you, Toronto, Beer and others. I enjoy watching the games, but as I told Toronto at WVU game Saturday, I don't profess to have near the knowledge you guys do. I get on the PPG website some mornings, but not always. I learn more from you guys than any other source so please keep spewing facts (and opinions)!
I agree on BB. From what I have seen he has been playing very well.
I am looking forward to game with Habs tomorrow. It should be interesting.
Let's go Pens!
