ESPN has WVU at #10 in way too early top 25

I hope it works out that way, but it seems I've heard that best receiving corps in the nation stuff every year since Dana took over. Other than last year it doesn't seem to have helped much. (As far as overall season record. There have been magic moments of course.)

Looks about the same as ESPN's 2017 preseason poll, as well as the one they did the year before that, and the year before that one, and the year before that one. Anybody want to guess what their 2019 and 2020 preseason polls will look like?

Only poll that matters is the one the so-called experts put out in late October/early November.

We should be pretty good next year. OU, TCU, and Texas will probably be our biggest challenges in the conference.

Penn State is too low IMO.

Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports does not include WVU in his way-too-early 2018 top 25. That’s a bit ridiculous.

My way to early Top 25...

Will not be shown until further notice.

Everybody knows the offense will be lethal but it’s our better defense that will make next years team way better. Our defense will be as good or better than the 2016 defense that helped us go 10-2. Our defensive line was not good in 2017 but all those guys will be back in 2018 and will be bigger, older and more experienced. We also have 1-2 nice additions to the rotation.

The conference has changed since 2016.
Conference's evolve and because the evolution taking place WVU needs to develop a consistent running game.
When teams with great corners drop 2 safeties back on WVU Grier will have to create on his own.
Do you see him as a Baker Mayfield or Kenny Hill.
I don't because he lacks the athletic ability.
Teams with top level cover corners and speed rushers on the edge will give WVU problems.
These 4 games are looking like defeats next year: Texas, Oklahoma, TCU and Oklahoma State.

Then Kansas State is a Toss up.

More than that these five teams will run the ball and work the clock next year more than years pass.
Especially Oklahoma St next year.

There is a reason why TCU, OU and Oklahoma St have dual threat QBs starting next year.
So when the teams push the safeties back the QB will take off and then open up the passing lanes because the S will have to move up to shadow the QB.

More than that there is an evolution taking place in the college game that may change CFB and football in general for a long time.
We seen a little of it this year with Joel Lanning at ISU and Baker Mayfield at OU. The QB position may turn into a QB/HB/WR or even a QB/HB/FB/WR an then having two of them on the field at the same time or having players like what you saw in Houston with UH's Ed Oliver from the defense moving over to play the wildcat position.

Triple Threat and Quadruple threat QBs will be something you begin to hear.
A lot of teams even Bama next year might be using two QBs more than ever at the same time.

A lot of this is being created and experimented on at the high school level in Texas.

Just think of 2 or 3 players like Randall Cobb when he was at Kentucky on the field at the same time.

The only one of those looking like a defeat is Oklahoma. TCU and OKST lost way too many players to concede those games already. Texas will be only slightly better next season.

Texas smashed on you last year and would have beat you with Will Grier.
Oklahoma St returns their RB, a lot of their OL and a lot of their defense.
Only people leaving are the QB and the WR.
This is why Oklahoma St will be a much different team in 2018 but they could be better.
TCU has a lot of talent remaining.
Their defense will be back as well.
They lose some on offense but as you saw in the Alamo Bowl they still have a lot of speed and talent with their underclassmen.
Their backup won at Tech Robinson and the other QB coming in from Louisiana is one of the top dual threat QBs in the country.
