MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (September 26, 2017) – West Virginia University basketball forward Esa Ahmad did not meet NCAA eligibility requirements and is not eligible for game competition for the first half of the 2017-18 regular season.

Ahmad, a junior from Cleveland, played in 34 games in 2016-17, averaging 11.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Well that's just awesome news. Hopefully he's good for conference games.

Whenever anything like this happens, its typically not as simple as just throwing the guy out there and the team is elevated. Takes a few games for the conditioning to return, and a few more for the team to gel with him in the rotation again. So we will hopefully be going full steam ahead in February, but we probably take ourselves out of the conference title race being shorthanded and out of sync for a chunk of the conference schedule.

So this is different than his failed drug test? He was going to miss the first half anyway, right?

How do you fail a drug test at the NCAA tournament? You know when they're going to test. It's not a surprise.

Can he pull a Tom Brady/Zeke Elliot and get this bullshit delayed until next year? Next year, they won't be as thin as they are now in front court.

Also, he should not be suspended 1 game until NCAA punishes UNC. Those assholes were still allowed to win a National Championship last year.

He should pay the price, as should any other college athlete who is too damn dumb to follow a few rules and do the right thing. Time to stop whining about how "important" they are because they can bounce a ball or throw a pass for G sake.

Esa may not have known the rules with respect to drugs. It's the coaches responsibility to make sure the players know the rules on drugs. Dadgummit, Dadgummit! War-ez
