Louisville punter stepped toward where the Duke defender was running in, and gets a roughing the kicker penalty. Also, a Louisville block changed the direction of the Duke defender. If the missed field goal stood, instead of a penalty that let Louisville score a TD eventually, Duke would have had the ball with more than 2 minutes left and about 75 yards of field to cover, which at least might have permitted a field goal to send it into overtime.

When I watched it, I thought it was a bad call. But the Duke coach blamed it on the rule. With this rule, the kicker can deliberately move to where the defender is coming in, and get the 15-yard penalty. Sort of like flopping in basketball to get the foul call.

Rule makes it tough on the refs. And the defenders. As Duke coach says, maybe no one can try to block FG kicks any more.

I'm not an expert on the rules but as far as the call being a good call or not I guess it's a matter of perspective. I was pulling for Duke so I didn't agree with the refs, but if I was a Louisville fan I would have said they made the right call. Anyway Duke gave them a lot closer game than anyone could have imagined.

I didn't care who won and I thought it was absolutely a legitimate call. You can't take a kickers leg out, plain and simple. And he wasn't blocked into him, he went around the block. It may have altered his route to the kicker, but that's not a valid reason to take a kicker's leg out.
