MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (July 19, 2023) Senior Kevin Dowdell of the West Virginia baseball team has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Los Angeles Angels.

Dowdell is the fifth Mountaineer to either be drafted or selected in free agency by an MLB team this week, joining draftees Carlson Reed (Pirates – fourth round) and Braden Barry (Blue Jays – eighth round) and free agents Landon Wallace (Angels) and Tevin Tucker (Rockies).

The Montevallo, Alabama native was a two-way player in two years with the Mountaineers. On the mound, the lefty had a 4.50 ERA and seven strikeouts in 11 appearances in relief this season. He also held opponents to just a .150 batting average.

At the plate, he hit .200 with a home run, a double, eight RBI, and eight runs scored. He also walked five times and stole three bases.

Dowdell is the fifth Mountaineer to begin his professional career with the Angels and second this year along with Wallace.
