Douglas and Orlosky Named to All-American Teams
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – (December 12, 2016) –West Virginia senior cornerback Rasul Douglas and senior center Tyler Orlosky were named to the Associated Press and the Football Writers’ Association of America All-American teams, today, as second-team selections.
Douglas, who tied for the national lead in interceptions with eight in 2016, was named an unanimous All-Big 12 First-Team honoree by the league’s coaches, the Associated Press and ESPN.com. He also was named to Walter Camp, Pro Football Focus and USA Today All-American second teams and as the league’s defensive player of the year by ESPN.com.
Douglas was the fourth-leading tackler for West Virginia, registering 62 tackles, including 45 solo stops, one sack, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble and seven pass breakups.
Douglas returned an interception 54 yards for a touchdown against BYU and had an interception for four straight games from Kansas through the Iowa State games. He had a season-high two interceptions against Kansas.
Orlosky, who also was named to the USA Today and SI.com All-American teams, played in 49 career games and started 41 for the Mountaineers, all at center. He was one of three finalists for the 2016 Rimington Trophy and was a unanimous first-team All-Big 12 selection. He was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection and was the school’s first football finalist the Senior CLASS Award.
The Mountaineers’ offense was ranked No. 12 nationally in total offense, No. 13 in first down offense, No. 18 in rushing offense, No. 24 in passing yards per completion and No. 30 in passing offense.
West Virginia finished with a 10-2 mark during the 2016 regular season and will face Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Wednesday, December 28, at 5:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN.
