I'm sure he doesn't like being right about this but if you have questions about the future, ask this guy. He made the post on X at 8:06am yesterday.
Donald Trump was warned of 'dangerous' policy just days before fatal Washington D.C. plane crash
This tragic incident happened just 10 days after Trump signed an executive order freezing the hiring of Federal civilian employees, a decision that had been warned could lead to plane crashes. The hiring freeze stipulated that no federal civilian position vacant at noon on January 20 would be filled, and no new positions could be created.
Just hours prior to the Washington D. C. crash, Thomas Schaller, a Political Science Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, took to X to issue a warning about the hiring freeze. He stated: "An FAA employee I know confirms agency already lacks sufficient air traffic controllers. The so-called 'buyouts' and other attacks on federal employees won't help. Remember that fact when the flight delays (crashes? ) commence and Trumpers start falsely blaming DEI or Biden."
Schaller has since clarified that the tragedy of the crash occurring 13 hours following his Tweet was mere coincidence, and he does not hold the Trump administration responsible. "The crash may have zero to do with stuff Trump admin did this week. I don't know," he stated.
The suspension of federal hiring does not affect military personnel or roles vital for immigration enforcement, national security, or public safety, and it's uncertain if this prevents the FAA from acquiring new air traffic controllers. Yet, Washington Representative Rick Larsen highlighted the seriousness of the impact, emphasizing the importance of recruiting air traffic controllers as stipulated by the bipartisan FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024.
"The bipartisan FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 directs the Administration to hire the maximum number of air traffic controllers. That's what the law says, so the Administration must rescind this ridiculous executive order," he asserted. Larsen didn’t mince words about aviation safety, saying, "Hiring air traffic controllers is the number one safety issue according to the entire aviation industry...I'm not surprised by the President's dangerous and divisive actions, but the Administration must reverse course. Let's get back to aviation safety and allow the FAA to do its job protecting the flying public."
