Does our football team have the best depth in WVU history.

Imo we have depth perhaps at RB, WR, LB, & DB, but at qb no, and on the OL and DL, my vote is not enough to where you wouldn't notice

Going to 1960, I can't remember having anywhere
near this much depth. QB is the glaring exception.
But as mentioned above when someone goes down
we don't lose a step with the replacement.
If we announce Dana's new contract this weekend
we could get some recruits signed on the spot.

1988 was 2 deep at just about every position...and then some.
1988 was the first thing that popped into my mind also when I read this thread. A whole lot of talent on that team!

Interesting question. Yes, on surface, this year's team does appear to have some depth. But, to be honest, this year our schedule is rather weak. Only OU and OSU are having good years. All the others including TCU and KSU, are either in a rebuilding mode, or are having sub-par years.

This is a difficult question and requires thought. I will be back with you after I analyze my data. I admit that this years team is good and has great depth. Warez

OK......................the computer says that the 88 team was superior in depth and all around greatness. Warez

This thread isn't about the best team. No doubt '88 wins that hands down. I do recall Whitmore going down in the Syracuse finale, I believe, and depth was a real concern. When Major was injured very early in the Fiesta Bowl the drop-off when Greg Jones took over was huge. No doubt QB depth on the current team is problematic.

I still think '88 team had more depth. If I recall correctly, Coach Nehlen replaced the entire OL on the 3rd series each game with little drop off in talent (which certainly helped in '89.) Greg Jones played well at times during the season, but it definetely hurt when Major went out in Fiesta Bowl, but IMO Jones was superior to this year's backups, or at least had more experience. I think Whitmore got hurt in the last away game (Rutgers?) the week before the SU home finale, but I could be wrong about that. That injury hurt, but there was some discussion after the bowl game that maybe Coach Nehlen should have just replaced him with the best player available instead of reshuffling the whole defensive backfield before the game with ND.

Its nice to think the 1988 team was the greatest and the most depth. Its just not true. They would lose 3-4 games with our schedule now.

Houston plays in the American conference Who did they beat? What about Central Michigan who did they beat? Another BS post punish

as always,
you all puff up a team that would
not go 11-0 (or undefeated)
during regular season....

yes (nausiating),
we lov our team,
we always lov our team....

but I'm sure you didn't feel this way during the Ok State and Oklahoma games this season

This current team most definitely has more depth than the more recent Fiesta/Orange bowl teams. I would assume it's much easier to land recruits using Big 12 as a selling point versus Big East.

Well, I know WVU 2nd and 3rd string could give Marshall a beat down. Herd could not stay on the field with our depth.

But saying the 1988 team would lose 3 or 4 games to current schedule is ludicrous. Seems some have forgotten how mobile Harris was. I would have like to see him in Holgs offense. Running the read option and the passing game with the running backs .Harris would make Lamar Jackson look normal.

Major carried that ball like it was a loaf of bread! Wouldn't it have been something to have him back for his senior year? The pro teams had it all wrong. Major Harris would have been a great professional player but the 'shiny shoes' at the time were looking for the drop back passing type QB. What a shame.

He didn't make a good showing before the pros.
