If so, Holgerson may want to give them a shot over the next 4 weeks. He may get lucky and find one that can play. I like the current QBs attitude but his accuracy is very suspect. One out of 10 longs throws make the target. Usually overthrows medium routes and underthrows long routes...He is o.k. with the short game. We need a threat at that position.

i'd say turn our starting QB now into a fullback and get someone else throwing the ball...his lofty passes remind me of Geno when he couldn't judge the wind in the 2nd half of the season.

No, we do not...

Holgerson may not be a great coach but he probably has a lot better football mind than any of us on this message board. I don't think he is a stupid person either so I really doubt there is anyone on the roster that is better than Howard at this point. It is more than just making the throws, he has to make the reads, know the playbook, be a leader in the huddle, has to be tough enough to mix in the run, he has to be able to check down to multiple receivers, read the defenses, change the play from under center - lots of stuff. In the few glimpses of Crest I don't think he is the guy. Neither does Dana. So that leaves Chugs and Sills, who have never taken a snap and none of us has ever seen run an offense. Howard was good enough to win that game last night but not with 11 penalties 2 fumbles and short field position all night. I don't think Howard is a great QB but he is definitely the best I've seen out of what we've got. I think our playbook demands a lot out of him, Dana needs to figure out how to work in more short and medium passes. The deep ball gets called too often for Howard's abilities.

A fullback? Good lord. You do see how small he is, right? Do you watch the games at all?

I agree. This is what I think needs changed --next game moving forward. Howard doesn't need to be great, but shape the game plan more around his ability. Outside of the occasional deep balls, the dink and dunk passing and running game (less the turnovers) probably suits this offense better than what we've done thus far. I think the first 3 games (due to the opponents), gave HCDH a false sense of what Skylar was capable of. We are still running over 90 plays per game and over 400 yards of offense, but we're putting Skylar into high risk situations that lead to interceptions, sack/fumbles etc.

Hail......................just learn to enjoy the game. Take what you can for enjoyment and leave the rest. The WVU football team and Skyler Howard bring excitement to our homes and deserve to be acknowledged for what they provide....................not admonished for their failures. Render unto Caesar what is Caesars! Warez

Holgs has had four full recruiting to bring in an above average QB and coach him up. What do we have to show for it? Millard? Childress? We lucked into Trickett and now a juco transfer with accuracy and turnover issues. Maybe the next big thing is on the roster but looks like we're in for another bumpy year.

A new QB is always going to be doubted after a loss. They thought that they had a great QB at Oklahoma after 4 games, but the loss to Texas has some of their low information fans questioning whether that kid is now any good. We were so close to winning against a very good team, why make major changes now.

You can try to divert the blame to Skyler all you'd like. The fact is if Skyler isn't adequate it's on Dana. Dana brought him in. Dana had all of last year to figure out if his skill set and acumen were adequate to win with. Dana has had four complete classes to recruit someone better. If we don't have a P5 level QB on the roster that's on Dana. Skyler simply accepted a scholarship for a full ride and play football. What was he supposed o do? Tell Dana I'm not good enough so move on!

People keep wondering why our offense looks so vanilla and it's because Dana knows he can't open up the playbook with Howard. He can't make the throws Geno could make.

David Sills is the only QB on the roster that had offers from top 25 programs.

Crest? Not saying he would be the answer and has progressed any since arriving because I don't know, but he had some nice offers. His deep ball was on the money last night, it was just good coverage. The out pass he threw however look very very bad.

Crest has a D1 arm and can run. We haven't seen enough of him to know any more than that, but the coach must think Howard is better for some reason.

Unless Crest gets to start (take most reps in practice, etc.), we'll never know. I suspect he would be really good if given the chance, but I don't get to see him in practice every day like the coaches do. If he isn't a D1 QB, then the answer to your question is no, we don't have one (at least not that isn't redshirted).

So tell me, if Holgorsen does not think Crest is the guy, why did he recruit him? At some point, our head coach has to be held accountable for recruiting players that do not turn out to be what he thought they would be. There is no telling the other QB's on the roster are "the guy" either.

Im not sure if Crest is the guy but it is time to see him in live meaningful action. Howards turnovers aren't the biggest problem. It his inability to consistently complete any type of short to intermediate pass. This leads to more long down situations and forcing the ball or waiting for long routes to develop. That then leads ton the turnovers.

Coaches recruit kids all the time that don't turn out to be what they thought they would be. At the QB only one can start at a time - if the competition is close you sometimes see a platoon system. Most teams have talent that isn't starting. Like Huggins said, if a guy has made the team I expect him to contribute when he is asked to, even if he is a walk-on. Holgerson gets to decide who is starting and who is waiting to step in. Our problem is that Dana seems to be consistently unable to play a QB that would start for any other Big12 team. If Howard goes down, we will find out if any of our backups are any good. I frankly don't think the competition is even close right now. Dana has plenty to work on himself to make this team better other than the QB spot, like discipline and fewer penalties, better play calling, better clock management, and a playbook that doesn't demand that Skyler have Geno Smith's skillset.
