Do 'Eers think the Birds can get this right?

Kansas is already failing according to that article imo. They're using a search guy in Jed Hughes to hire the AD. Then the article says they're probably going back to the same search firm and guy Jed Hughes to hire a head football coach.

The school should pick the AD, and without question, the AD SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE 5 NAMES IN HIS BACK POCKET FOR EVERY HEAD COACHING JOB ON CAMPUS. If the AD isn't smart or gutsy enough to hire a head coach in every sport, then he should NOT be an AD.

As for who to hire from the names on their list, it depends upon how patient they will be. Greg Schiano went to Rutgers in 2001 when it the worst program in college sports. WVU went 3-8 that season but beat Rutgers 80-7 and ran the same play the entire 2nd half after leading 50-0 at the half. Rutgers became a decent team under Schiano because they stuck with him and didn't fire him after 3 bad seasons.

Kansas is really the new Rutgers. Schiano, interesting enough, is available even though he's not mentioned in that article. Might want to look at him, even though he's a total jerk as a person and probably would not fit in in Lawrence Kansas.

Kansas has to hire a head coach who can recruit, teach, and build for football respectability cause they have none right now.

KU search for HC

Fan Choice and dreams of winning

Dave Doeren - Head Coach, NC State
Doeren is 26-27 at NC State, and just 9-23 in the ACC, never finishing above 4th in his division. It’s also worth noting Doeren has beaten a total of 0 ranked teams at NC State. He was great at Northern Illinoisand had a Heisman candidate to help him beat up on MAC opponents. It seems like the main argument around Doeren was an assistant at Kansas for awhile.

Lower Level Head Coaches that might gamble with their careers

Vince Kehres - Mount Union (D3)
Hiring a D3 coach is certainly a gamble. Just ask Buffalo, who hired Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Lance Leipold, who has gone just 7-19 in 2 seasons and 2 games there. Kehres, who is 55-4 at Mount Union, certainly would be an out of the box hire, but given that Mount Union’s history of success lets them get some talented kids who would likely be playing up a level, and the fact that they can mostly pick and choose their recruits in a level that doesn’t offer athletic scholarships, means Kehres is a stay away.

Mike Grossner - Baker (NAIA)
Grossner is 98-50 in 14 seasons at Baker, and the 2016 team made it to the national title game and was quarterbacked by the national player of the year. It would obviously be a huge jump, but Grossner obviously knows the area. Ultimately it seems recruiting would be his downfall.

Kevin Kelley - Pulaski Academy
This selection is probably the most farfetched, but Kelley has the sort of outside the box thinking that Kansas needs. He does two things always goes for it on 4th down and always onside kicks. His offense also incorporates a lot of downfield laterals. the onside kick thing wouldn't work as well in college football, especially at the P5 level, because players are much more coordinated, but certainly teams would benefit from onside kicking more. And we know teams would benefit for going for it on 4th down more and punting/kicking field goals less. I can say this with certainty: he'd be the most fun coach on this list to have as coach.

Kansas is wanting Bret Bielema.
He now has a cushy job in the NFL as a college scout.

Jeff Long, former Pitt and Arkansas AD, may give him an offer he cannot refuse.

Cannot remember the man's name offhand( David Booth) but he invested close to 60? million dollars into KU football for their stadium and their coaching hire.

He had them on the cusp of glory in 2007.

Mangino wasn't horrible but he wasn't great.
Kansas 2007 was a product of their schedule.
They didn't play the three top teams in the South.
When Texas and Oklahoma were put back on their schedule they had their heads kicked in.

Best KU coach in recent memory was Glen Mason.
