Did anyone see Chugs on the sideline last Saturday?

(apologize for sending this so late)

My seats are on the WVU sideline side of the stadium and I wondered if anyone else noticed that, late in the second quarter and in the early third quarter (before it became evident that Howard was playing better in the second half), Chugs was warming up aggressively and had his helmet on standing on the slideline when the offense was on the field or ready to go on the field.

It just seemed to me like he may have been told to get ready in case Dana decided to pull the trigger.

I know this sounds like a long shot, but it is evident to me that Dana has no confidence in Crest as a QB (regardless of what he says publically) and he may have been very close to burning Chugs red shirt last saturday.

Did anyone else see this?

Since Dana more or less said in his Tuesday Presser (I think it was Tuesday) that unless Sky starts putting the ball in the right place at the right time he'll have to find someone who does I find it very easy to believe that Dana has already been considering his options at QB for this season.

What does the current depth chart show? Is Sills or Chugs listed 3rd?

Yay then we can talk about how he isn't worth a dam at QB on Monday! You can't put faith in any kid that Dana has recruited at QB. Obviously the guy is dimwitted when it comes to picking and recruiting quality QB talent. Hasn't done it in 5 years and I'm not holding my breath that he can start now. Both Geno and Trickett fell into his lap. The only thing he gets credit for was being smart enough not to run them off like he did the entire defensive staff.

I think Chugs can physically ready to play D1, but if I recall, it was said that Sills needed to bulk up more. As a result, it would be between Crest and Chugs.

I think Sills is 4th because he was getting the scout team reps... meaning during game prep he is running the opposing teams offense instead of our own.

Chugs looked like a QB on tape coming out of high school.......Looks like he really had talent......He has to play before we know if Dana swung and missed.......

Can Smallwood make the call to put Chugs in for Skyler or does Holgs have to do it?

That defensive staff sure is tearing it up for fraudriquez at Arizona, aren't they?

good lord lol "trickett fell into his lap"? He made trickett better than he was. Trickett was mediocre at best.

Yes. Trick wanted to leave FSU and come "home" to Morgantown/WVU. He fell into Holgs lap. The point is that Holgorsen did not recruit Trickett out of high school. Trick fell into his lap.

Geno was already here and Ollie said that one of things he stressed to Dana as he courted him was that Geno was a QB with loads of potential. Geno fell into his lap. Holgs did not recruit him either.

The two quarterbacks that Holgs did not actively recruit have been his two best quarterbacks. The guys that he went out and found/recruited have left a lot to be desired.

It's not hard to understand.

PS: Yes. There has been some talk of the "recruitment" of Trick once his transfer intentions were known. But it was also fairly common knowledge that Trick had always wanted to play in Morgantown. After a couple/few visits to other schools Trick transferred to the school he had always wanted to play for. If you want to call that the "recruitment" of Trick go ahead and do it. But everyone knows that Trickett went to the school he had always wanted to play for ... well, most people do.

Just because Holgs goes out and finds a great QB doesn't mean that WV can sign him. Lots of other coaches find the great QB as well. The team with the most resources (money) usually signs the great QB. WV gets to choose from the best of the rest. Well, maybe they get to choose from what's left. Period! Enjoy the team as they take the field and get over yo'self!

So Dana's in year 5

and we aren't going to allow credit to be given to him for Geno's progress (years 1 and 2)

and we aren't going to allow credit to be given to him for the recruitment and progress of Trickett (years 3 and 4)

so then, from an examiner's eyes, this is Dana's 1st year of QB evaluation................ right? It's rocky for sure, but Skyler will turn it around, and in the same sense, ridicule over his QB recruiting has no basis since his guys are all freshman other than Howard, meaning you MUST give his guys more time to be evaluated.

The Childress transfer really hurt the position's progress.

I agree, but Dana put us in that position when we have only recruited 1 QB on 2 separate years. I know sometimes QBs threaten to only come to a certain school if they only take that QB, but I don't think that has been our case.

I would argue the move that was worse than Childress was only recruiting Rawlins one year. That was a killer.

Hmmm, why can't he make any of his recruits better than they were? And if this Skyler in "better than he was" mode how hot dam bad was he to begin with? Geno fell in his lap, Trickett came home and everyone else at some point in the season has looked like some dude Dana put in because he lost a bet.

Dana can't recruit a quarterback?

I thought Crest, Chugs, and Sills were all good QB prospects. Are they not anymore because Dana recruited them?

Did all three play at some point and fail because for some reason I don't remember that.

Geno Smith went from a 2,000 yard passer Stews last season and was a back to back 4,000 yard passer under Dana. With double TD output his senior year.

Yeah Dana had nothing to do with that at all.

I actually agree with much of what you're selling. I think if a QB found himself under Dana's tutelage, he'd be in a fine spot.

The perceived problem is that Dana has not done the process A to Z with his own QB. I hope he gets the opportunity too, because I'd like to see the final product.

I've mentioned many times that the Childress departure really hurt us. There was a great deal of investment in him and unfortunately, I think that may become Dana's demise.

Any thoughts on if letting Ford get worked-over in that game played a role?
