Suddenly the positivity is hitting reality. Sorry if I didn't spell his name exact.

Not sure if true, but I heard several players were caught up in doing something they shouldn't have been doing. Academic related.

At this rate, JMU will have more scholarship players for the opener than we will.

I'm going to trust the process, but with our schedule this year I think we should prepare ourselves for a 4-8 or 3-9 before the elevator starts upward again.

“WVU self reports” ...in 3..2..1. I hope not

So with this possible news then there could be more casualties?
I don't know. Like I said, it was just something a friend back home in WV had messaged me on FB. It's unusal for two projected starting DB's to leave within hours of one another though.

I heard the same. As well I don't know if rumor or true.

I also heard rumor of Holgorsen being a little lax in the education of players.

Just went from 6-6 at worst and 7-5 at best to 3-9 at worst and 4-8 at best.

Brown's first year at Troy was 4-8. With our schedule and all of this attrition -- and the inevitable injuries borne of lack of depth and simple bad luck -- 4-8 really does look like a best-case scenario. With 14 gone since January, we're going to have numbers issues for at least another season simply because of the NCAA limit on new scholarships per year. PWOs are going to be even more important than usual for us.

Now Eugene Brown in the transfer portal. If the rumors of a group thing being the reason some of these guys are leaving is true, I want to know what kind party they had in the safeties room.

Just read on another site EJ Brown is in the transfer portal now. Hate to start rumors but appears that it may be for something they did during finals testing.

3 Safeties are now on the move out.

Hold your seat tight there's a rumor floating there's several more possible departures in this wave.

Curt Cignetti pleased. How crazy will our fan base go if a former Mountaineer and son of a former Mountaineer coach comes in and beats WVU in his first game as JMU's head coach?

I still think we surprise people this year!!
I hope you're right, but this has quickly turned into a gut job and a rebuild. Not that it's a bad thing to clear out dead wood, but the numbers are going to kill us for a season or two.

Depth is a big problem but I just have a good feeling about this guy. If not this year it will be sooner than later.

Interested in seeing Stewart as one of the Safties.
I know he came in as a safety.

Your new D needs two hybrid players. Players can turn your defense into a 4-4. Reason why the 4-2-5 makes it difficult to move the ball with is the versatility with the players

Stewart fits that. I guess these others did not.

The runor from the other board is that they left when it was clear they were going to have to start playing defense.

I believe this to be true. Big problem is it kills the depth.

You know who played a lot of 4-2-5 in the NFL.

Seattle. More went to this as well but this defense all depends on a FS.

I guess the new coaches believe Mahone can cover a lot of ground.
I thought it would have been Raines. I liked Raines when you signed him.

But the other two players you need big safties that can stop the run/ little LBs that can cover
Kam Chancellor made this work.

Osita Smith is a great player for this role.

Like I said the 4-2-5 can become a 4-4 with multiple blitzers

If you have corners that can play press coverage.

It is trial by fire until the pieces develop but it is the only way you can play defense in the Big 12 and look somewhat decent.

The issue will be QBs that can throw the ball downfield on the seems.

Gary Patterson said it himself with the 4-2-5.
He is trying to turn his offense into what gives him the most trouble because a lot of teams in the Big 12 are going to these hybrid defenses.

The problem is the Spear and Cat are vulnerable at times to certain routes.
Hard to find guys that can turn their hips and run with speed in those positions.
