Dana and WVU 8-5

Still below expectations. But continue to celebrate being well below .500 in conference play, a losing bowl record, and a failure to recruit an NFL caliber QB to make his offensive system reach its peak potential.

8-5 and bowl wins that happen when 99% of the eastern time zone is asleep. Woohoo coach Holgs

If he met expectations our admin wouldn't have to come out and make a statement saying he is still the coach.

lmao so now it's changed from Dana recruiting a D1 qb to recruiting an NFL caliber qb? Classic

Isn't it pathetic and hard to believe than any real WVU fan couldn't enjoy the Cactus Bowl victory, for even a half day? Maybe they aren't WVU fans, they're just posers, trolls, and has-beens, or even more likely, never-weres.

And 5 of those were against the mighty teams such as Kansas, Maryland, Iowa St, Georgia Southern, and the Liberty Flames.... Lol

WVU improved, showed obvious adjustment and improvement.

When asked in the post game what to expect going forward Holgorsen smartly replied "improvement". He expects to continue building from the gradual improvements over the past few seasons.

Trolls can't stand it and are so immature they can't admit being wrong. Doesn't matter--WVU won a tough battle -coming back multiple times in basically a home game for ASU that ended when most Mountaineers would be asleep. Great gutty win for WVU and the BIG 12--two in a row over the overhyped Pac 12.

Haters cowering like dogs. You know who you are lol
Idiot, white trash trolls like you should be banned. Unlike you, all of us "haters" at least knew the name of our starting QB. Does it eat you up inside to have to pretend to be happy that we beat a decent team in a bowl, unlike your Blundering Turd, who beat #90? Why don't you go hang out with your fellow white trash on the Marshall board?

Wow! Your post is way over the top and should be deleted.

lmao looks like dolt mite is eating some well deserved crow for breakfast. Im glad to feed it to your arrogant, mouth breathing a$$. Stop cowering like a dog. Now answer the question; Is skyler a D1 qb or not?

This....only team on our schedule this year that out matched us with talent on the day we played them was Baylor. I'm starting to like Dana as coach though, it keeps my from getting too emotionally involved and angry when we lose as I know what we get. We will win 6 of the 7 teams we are supposed to beat and we go 4 for 4 in losing to teams we are supposed to lose to.......pretty easy to accept the outcome when you already know what it is going to be

Who said he never recruited a D1 QB? Dont batch me in with the asshats who think Trickett or Howard are not D1 QBs, they clearly are, that said recruiting a D1 QB is hardly something to chest thump about. There are 120 other starting D1 QBs...

dolt mite and Colorado have repeatedly told us Dana has not recruited a D1 qb since he's been here.

I swear, WVU is one of the most miserable and depressing fan bases to be a member of - it didn't feel like this when I was a student.

Well we have had two, and as I said recruiting a D1 QB is the bare minimum not the benchmark for success. Congrats to Holgs for doing something 95% of the current power 5 coaches could have also done for us, recruiting a couple D1 QBs to run a system that requires an NFL caliber QB in order to accomplish what we want.

The reason I want RR or someone who would run something similar back is because of how rare it is to find a high caliber NFL QB, it is much easier to find an athlete to fit RR's system than it is to find a Geno or Weeden or Keenum who are simply low end NFL QBs. Theres a reason the high end NFL QBs are invaluable to a front office, because they're so rare, Holgs is having trouble finding one of those guys and rightly so.

Trickett wasn't an NFL caliber QB and he ran the system very well.

maybe you should learn this offense. It doesn't require NFL caliber QBs. It makes them look NFL caliber. Thats the beauty of it.

Earlier this season Dana said he wanted to move the offense into this direction - run based. If Howard could have made more throws and our WR's had better hands, it certainly would have made a major difference but I think the offense was what Dana wanted this season.

Trickett wasn't an NFL caliber QB and he ran the system very well.

He ran the system okay, we have never come close to running what he had at Houston, Texas Tech and OK State because he has never brought in the QB to do it. Yes there are other guys that need to be there for it to fly (Crabtree at Texas Tech for example) but the QB is essential. Trickett and Howard are not bad, but they are never playing on Sunday, and say what you want about Keenum, Weeden, Graham Harrell, and Geno, but all of those guys made the NFL and 3 of 4 are sticking in the NFL. I have no idea if Holgorsen is capable getting that next level QB, right now it appears he either is not capable of scouting the right one, or is not able to sell one on coming here, either way thats not going to work.

How many games have Dana's Wvu QB recruits look like NFL Caliber QB's? What was the records of the teams they where playing when they looked like NFL Caliber QB's?

Why do you morons think that you have to have a NFL caliber QB to be successful in college football?
The two games are completely different. You think Alabama's scheme would work in the NFL?
You think Kiffin's failure in the NFL was a fluke?

Falcon...you use the word moron a lot when debating with other folks don't you? Put a little more Vodka on your morning Fruit Loops and the world might be better for you.

We don't but with the coach/program we have that is what is required for success. Alabama doesn't need one (although I'm sure they wouldn't mind one) because they're all world everywhere else, we will never be all world everywhere else so it's best to get a great QB who can mask a lot of our warts.

WVU was not competitive in 3 games this year. Two of those teams won huge bowl games against great opponents. One of those teams made the playoffs. Out of 13 games WVU was not competitive in 3 games! 2 games WVU should have won but because of mistakes ended up losing. 8 games WVU was absolutely the better team. Honestly how anyone can say WVU is not competing like it should in the Big12 is beyond me. Does WVU need to improve? Yes. Is WVU in a bad position? Hell no. Any WVU fan who knows anything about college football knows there is reason to be optimistic about the future of WVU's program.

Combined record of the 8 teams he beat is.......

39-59

Not exactly worthy of "vote of confidence" yet. Let's have him beat some quality teams year in, year out first. Beating up on the crumbs of the world and losing to the big boys isn't exactly what I was hoping for in WVU football in the Big 12.

and he's beaten them to. Last year he handed 11-1 Baylor it's only regular season loss. The year before that he beat top 15 Oklahoma state. He beat top 20 Texas at Texas the first year in the big 12. He beat Clemson in the Orange bowl. You cry babies better get used to Dana. Or find a new team.

Its funny how your pounding your chest running your pie hole over a Bottom feeder bowl win. After five years the best that this guy can produce is a 1 point win over a 6-6 team with 112th best defense in college football. All you did was complain when Stewart was here but you give Holgorson a pass any day for his underachievement. you go on about the Baylor win like we beat a national power. Every time Baylor plays on the big stage they get smoked Just ask Mich State and UCF and as for Okie state we may have beaten them when they where the 11th ranked team but we followed that up with Losses to Iowa state and Kansas in the same year you seem to have amnesia when that's brought up. Don Nehlen had a higher Bowl winning percentage then holgorson did his 1st five years and you have the gall to rip Terry Bowden for going 8-5 at Akron which is the same record Holgorson had in year 5. If Terry was our coach we would have won 9 games easily

Just presenting the Drug Divertor with facts. Another fact the Big 12 isn't the 2nd best football Conference in America. Come to papa I own you

So, what you are saying is that your expectations are as follows:

1. Beat all the crumbs of the world (which means 5 teams, 6 maybe)
2. Beat ONE team that ends up with a 9+ win season
3. Finish 7-5 and go to a bowl game against another team that is 6-6

Yeah, and I'm the one that is the "cry baby" who should "find a new team". Wow.

the last 35 years WVU has averaged...about 7 wins. And, against much weaker competition. And suddenly now, it's unacceptable despite playing tougher competition? Lol. Yes, you need to find a new team.

So, you are against advancement of the program? You are OK with the status quo? Then why didn't we keep Stewart? HAHA! Yeah, Luck just threw that old argument of "well we average 7 wins a season before" out the window bud. Sorry. Won't fly now.

And there are plenty of teams and fanbases that share your expectations. Please go to them. I am revoking your WVU fan card right now.....[thumbsup]

So...............you want both West Virginia and all of our opponents to win more games. That's not the way it works................my friend.

wrong. You idiots lost your fan cards a long time ago. You're just gonna have to deal with the truth. And that is luck made the right choice hiring Dana. He's winning 7-8 games a year in a real conference. He's beating top ranked schools. He's winning bowl games. He's winning BCS bowls.

As far as I am concerned Dana has not recruited a QB out of High School that is a D1 QB so far. Trickett and Howard do not count - they were transfers. Both did a good job but they both had college experience coming into WVU. Lets hope the crew of Crest, Sills and Chugs are the answer.

First off....to clear up your mistruths......

"winning BCS bowls" (as in plural).....he won ONE, as a winner of the Big East, in which you disgrace all the time.....can't have it both ways.....How many BCS bowls has he won since moving in to a "real conference"? Yeah, precisely.

"beating top ranked schools"......Baylor......check......Oklahoma State...check......what about Oklahoma? Kansas State? TCU (we beat them when they weren't a "top ranked" team)?

And my fan card is still good. I checked the expiration date.

The person you're arguing with doesn't have any say in what happens in the program and neither do you. Besides, your argument is flawed from the beginning. You can believe in advancing the program without wanting to fire the coach (which is the only opinion you contribute here). We didn't keep Stewart because his boss made the decision and believe it or not, it wasn't only about wins - there was a lot more to Stewart's departure.

And there are plenty of teams and fanbases that share your loud-mouthed, couch-potato t-shirt fan ideas. Please go to them. I am revoking YOUR WVU fan card right now.....
