Just noticed on Vernon's scholarship board that the Redshirt freshman class and soph classes only has 10 and 12 kids left. I guess Stew was not the only one having problems with retention (btw, Rod had the same issue).

Im still trying to figure out what happened to all the Dana guys?

There is going to be a lot of "I told you so's" when this is all done.

There is nothing I would love more than to be wrong about this, but I think you may be right...

Agreed. The best option would be for Dana to make it happen. I just can't see it happening.
Definitely! Before the KState debacle, I thought Dana had turned the corner. Hopefully that game was an anomaly, and Dana proves it tonight...

Attrition happens, Stew's problem was thinking it was OK not to take the maximum number of kids each year, which created a major shortage in players

Signing only 20 would have worked if the kids had stayed, so its the same issue. Some still continue to make excuses for Dana. Only 8 left out of class of 22 and there is still time to lose more. Problem is he is leaving cupboard bare for the next and the same depth issues.

ThePunish-Troll is avoiding this post like the plague...
A lot of pro Dana guys are avoiding but lets recap what we have learned in the last 24 hours:

1. The Big 12 is not as good as the Pro Dana crowd says. Look at the bowl records.

2. Debo admitted that WVU had more depth and speed then Clemson in the last Orange Bowl and they learned from that game.

3. Dana only has 8 kids left in his redshirt freshman class and 13 in his soph class.

The wheels are coming off this thing fast and it points back to Luck and Clements selling us down the road and have left the mess up to someone else to fix. Stew needed to go but he also needed to be treated better as did the assistant coaches, and as painful as it is to the anti Stew crowd its becoming clear he left the team in pretty good shape. Then the long-term contract that was given Dana is a joke.

Now, having said this, we need Dana to recruit well this year and be here one more year to lower the buy-out. Hold on gang this could be a difficult ride because more de-commits are on the way.

Let's see, does a true soph count the same as the red shirt freshman since they were in the same class? Does the starting QB count if he's in the same class but a JC recruit? Looks like some of you guys are overlooking the fact that some played as true freshman and some did not. Certainly I counted 12 out of the 22 not 8. It's hard to follow when kids get in like some of the JC guys and then leave after one year because they aren't going to play. Lineman seem to be the ones that leave more than any other position.

2013 class of 26, I count 21 who saw game action. Might be more as I can't recall when the 5 left.

Of the 2014 class of 22, I count 15 who have seen game action. Some left after only one year. Still getting kids in better than before but not as good as 2013

When did Dabo say we had more speed? The only player who was faster was Tavon. They had Sammy Watkins and the running back who took it the house in the first series and is playing in the NFL, Ellington, wasn't it. What they had was a QB that was prone to big mistakes, Boyd. Are we lucky that he didn't come!

Not sure why these numbers would be a surprise to anyone. Redshirt Freshmen is always a smaller subset, you don't redshirt an entire class. Both freshmen and redshirt freshmen have at least 3 years of eligibility left, some of those that are designated as redshirt season this year will have 4 years left. The softmore class is also smaller because we took more JUCOs.

The Dana haters just can't count or understand the chart.

go look at vernons chart......we recruited 48 kids in those two classes and only 21 remain...facts are facts

the fact is that class only has 8...terrible...our fans used this as the excuse to run stew out
One of those trolls "corrected me" and told me Tyrek Cole wasn't our best recruit of last season, and that Jovon Durante was. Well, I guess it doesn't matter now. With the attrition, last year's class is bad and this year's is atrocious. It looks like a Nehlen class near the end of his tenure...

I said Durante was the highest rated and most highly recruited but we have 19 seniors leaving and have 22 commits. That leaves us with 3 or 4 openings but that will chnage with some defections. Still a long way from the high 50's that we had 5 years ago

if this trend continues we are in big trouble

all schools have low numbers in spring because seniors are gone and freshman have not come in yet. This story was created to make it look worse by Ollie and his PR machine.

we can only bring in 25

Cole is gone and who knows if Durante will be back. This year looks very similar to five years ago...

The facts say otherwise...

I said that 15 had seen action, I beleive that Howard was in that class, he has 350 yds passing tonite in case you haven;t notice, so he's played too. Some have left so your count is correct as of now. Some might leave after this year. Roster changes but my argument has been that these kids are getting in. The two previous coaches were signing guys that weren't going to be admitted. Big difference.

Btw did you see Dabo's quote from last night, he said wvu had more depth and speed then Clemson in the Orange bowl so they went out and recruited differently

stews guys saw action as well but they left....can have it one way with stew and another with dana

its that quote from last night, scholarship numbers, and the big 12 doing poorly that has fans up in arms over dana right now

Good conversation with less name calling. As for the Dabo quote, as was said, he was saying he didn't have enough speed and depth on defense to keep up with wvu's offense. A couple guys got hurt in first half and the guys he was bringing in weren't good enough. He fired his DC and focused on upgrading the defensive side of the ball. His point was that his offense wasn't much better than 5 years ago but the defense is much faster and deeper.
