We all know Texas wants Tom Herman, and at this point LSU is leaning towards Ed Orgeron (and a host of other possible names), but our fans are freaking out like Dana is gone. What gives? What am I missing? I have been told almost all our coaches with direct WV contacts would want to stay here and/or not have an interest in trying to beat Nick Saban (thats a career ending deal). So Dana's coaches have no interest in going and other then some leak by a national media (and we all know coaches plant these seeds with reporters) member what other proof do we have LSU has interest? LSU may have some interest but Dana is waaaayy down the list. Why the freak out???

This is the first I've seen of it. He may want gone because he doesn't want to deal with Lyons (which this guy is starting to show he's not greatly competent). Then again, a 10 or 11-win season would lock him for another 5 years possibly, and anything more than that would put him in a great deal of West Virginians' hearts, so maybe he likes the scenery.

My point is, we don't know what he's thinking, nor will we until December or January.

I personally think it would be naïve to believe that Holgorsen will be at WVU for a long period of time. It is my opinion that he will either underachieve and be let go, or as it appears could be the case, and I certainly hope so, that he will be very successful and be lured away by what is perceived a better job.

With that said, of course I could be wrong but it is difficult for schools like WVU to keep coaches with no ties to the state or the area. Don Nehlen was an exception and it could be that Holgorsen will be to. This is just my opinion. Should we freak out about it? Absolutely not. For him to be lured away means WVU has been successful.

The blame falls to Shane IBeLyons. He totally f'ed how he handled the contract negations last year, which was in the works and he pulled after the KSU loss. Then he offers a contract extension with a smaller buyout then current contract which is not only a joke but in insult. Dana was not very happy with Lyons right now and might take a lateral move if offered.

Top to bottom Luck handed off the AD in the best shape, and Lyons is going to F it all up.

You may have seen some of my posts here that essentially agree with you 100%. Shane Lyons is, best case, a dufuss. Worst case he will take down the program. I don't trust him and I don't like him. Hey Gordon Gee... please take note! I will dis-inherit you for this mistake.

I think if we go on to have a very good to great season that Dana will be able to dictate all but unreasonable terms to Lyons.

And despite what everyone seems to think .... I'm not convinced that Lyons won't willingly negotiate a favorable deal with Dana if it turns out to be a very good to great year.

Half of the people saying that we need to re-up Dana's contract are the same people who were saying that Dana was on the hot seat.

If I'm Dana........... I'm watching UCLA's coaching situation. Jim Mora's seat is getting preeeeeeeeeeeetty hot these days. Actually, if I'm Dana....... I'm watching all the following schools:

1. Oklahoma State - If we walk in and beat Gundy, his seat goes red hot.
2. Oregon - He gone........... Phil Knight money is a nice thing
3. UCLA - as stated above
4. Arizona - RichRob bout to get fahhhrd. P12 Conference is great and weather is perfect
5. Texas A&M - Just in case someone scoops up Kev in the coaching cycle.
6. LSU - looks like they just missed out on the Tom Herman contest. Sign me uP!
7. Miss St - in the heart of fantastic recruiting and the SEC. Plus, the ladies...... shew

we could just take Dan

Ok State and UCLA could be, the question is no matter he gets a new deal or not I see him leaving for these jobs

Lyons is one of the feller 'shiny shoes' and is fur from being a dufuss. You can't be a stupit dufuss and make millions and billions. Can ya?

If we win 8+ games, Dana deserves 3.5 million and a 7 million buy out

On top of his 275,000 state funded salary

Things turned around with Gibby's arrival. Yet you guys are obsessing about a contract for DH. Par for the course here

Paper. You were exposed. You admitted to being unhappy we won because it'd mean it would be more likely our head coach would be retained. I.e. You were exposed as putting your hate for our coach above whether we win. Take the whine down to Huntington. They need your expert input there.

Look, I could not be more happy about how this season is going and it certainly does look as if Holgorsen has things headed in the right direction. But to be fair to Lyons, up to this season, Holgorsen had given him no reason to believe this sudden improvement was coming, thus giving him no reason to extend his contract.

This is Gee's show not Lyons

Dana could be Gibby's OC, but only if he agrees to tough practices and hard nose football.

If this is a serious post, I disagree with each one of these except maybe Oregon. Why would Gundy's seat be hot? He was just in a BCS bowl last year and is the most successful coach they've ever had? UCLA won't fire Mora - Rosen being injured has been their issue.

Ms St or Zona? Unlikely.

Dana's got a pretty good thing going on right now in Morgantown, even with his boss being a dumbass. There's a good coaching staff in place and no matter what happens the rest of this year, we will be preseason top 15 in 2017.

This works but Dana will want the entire contract guaranteed and that is the issue

I don't think you ever see a contract like the one he signed before ever happen here again unless Saban is coming home.

I'll retract never and replace it with...unless we win the NC this year. At that point, all rules are ignored.

Dana loves it here in WV and would like to stay. He finally has the staff he needed, the facilities are improving, finally has the team depth and talent needed to compete in the Big 12 , and a great quarterback ready to take over next year. Add to all that his son is the QB at Morgantown High and loves it here too. The only drawback is his relationship with the AD. If he doesn't get the respect and contract he deserves he will look to move on.

Correct. One correction. Nehlen was NOT an exception!, He was prepared to go to Ohio State till the Buckeyes backed out, so Don would have been gone, too. That's been our history forever: Lose, we boot them. Win, they leave us. As for LSU, I think Dana would prefer the Texas or Oklahoma jobs because he's comfortable in Big 12 territory. But if WVU wins the Big 12 and maybe the Football Final Four and leaves, then I'd say we got a good bargain. Hell, anyone who would win a national title for my alma mater has my blessings no matter that they do the rest of their coaching careers.

Seriously? It has finally dawned on you that all great head coaches and teams have great coaches on all sides of the ball, especially on the defensive side. Remember everybody laughing and saying how stupid Holgerson was for hiring Gibby? Looks like ole Dana may be having the last laugh!

When I referenced Don Nehlen I was not saying he never had opportunities to leave or that he would not have left under the right circumstances, just that he didn't. For whatever reason we were able to keep him and he did build our program. I agree with everything you said. If Holgorsen is successful enough at WVU to get one of those jobs you mentioned, he will have been worth the time and money. With that said, I do not believe he has earned that yet, but I sure hope he does.
