Cool story on my grandpa in Beckley paper:

Great story! I love this quote by your Grandfather instead of drowning out bad memories with alcohol.
“But I worked out my own solution.”

He became a writer and at the age of 96 finished his last book. That was his therapy, I've never seen the man have a drop of alcohol. 97 years old and is on Facebook

The picture on the left (blurry) on the wall with the Marine in dress blues is me.

Great story, and an even greater man. Looks like he's still in pretty good shape. I bet SnowSled changes his mind about stopping by Maple Fork. Grandpa would kick his ass.

You're obviously very proud, as you should be.

He reminds me a bit of my grandfather who passed a few years ago ... lived well into his 90's, served in WWII, etc.

nope......me and grandpa would get along just fine....I had one like that too.....he just didn't make it past 77

It sounds like you come from good stock. I can tell you're proud of him. I had a neighbor (Andrew) who was still mowing his lawn at the age of 95 and refused any help in getting it done. Sunday afternoons he was at my house or I was at his. The stories about the old days that he shared with me were unforgettable. He's been gone for a few years and I still miss him. Cherish every moment you have with your Grandpa.......and I will check out his books.
