Construction Forces Mountaineer Mantrip to Change Route
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (August 25, 2015) – With the ongoing construction taking place at Milan Puskar Stadium, the Mountaineer Mantrip will have a new route for the 2015 football season.
The walk, a nod to the state’s proud coal industry and heritage, will begin this year when the team is dropped off along Don Nehlen Drive at the southern-most entrance to the Light Blue Lot. The band and cheerleaders will continue to lead the team along the Mountaineer Mantrip route through the Light Blue Lot to the East Gate of Milan Puskar Stadium. Fans are encouraged to greet the team approximately two hours and 20 minutes prior to kickoff, along the new Mountaineer Mantrip path.
The West Virginia football Mountaineer Mantrip, a team walk originated by head coach Dana Holgorsen in 2011, rallies the WVU fans before each home game. The Mantrip is named after the shuttle that typically transports miners down into an underground mine at the start of their shift.
