I'm just posting facts... ...each person can decide what, if anything, they may say about our football team.

--Georgia Southern bounced back to clobber W.Michigan 43-17. They gained over 400 yards....on the ground

--That W.Michigan team was within 10 points of # 5 Michigan St. in the fourth quarter before eventually losing by 13.

--Liberty beat Delaware St. 32-13 in their opener.

--That D St. Team is now 0-2 after getting crushed by Kent St.... ....and again not scoring over 13 points.

NEXT UP: Maryland 1-1.....kicked Richmond ass and got ass kicked by Bowling Green

Although not original, it reminds me of what was sharpied in black on Dan Moses(?) wrist tape, "Fear None; Respect All!"

...yea, there's that... ...but despite her disclaimer I think my niece is attempting to make a bigger point.

I have zero idea what it is.....

The transitive property is useless in sports. For example from 2014...

North Dakota State beat Iowa St. 34-14
Iowa St. beat Iowa 20-17
Iowa beat Pitt 24-20
Pitt beat Virginia Tech 21-16
Virginia Tech beat Ohio St. 35-21

From that example, one could say that North Dakota St. & Pitt would beat Ohio St. But we all know that's ridiculous.

Or you can even use our schedule last year for an example of how the transitive property is useless...

Oklahoma 45 WVU 33
Baylor 48 Oklahoma 14

Surely that meant that Baylor curb stomped WVU right?
WVU 41 Baylor 27

But that's what the media & fans do - we overreact to individual outcomes. "This team is unbeatable" or "that teams sucks" pretty much happens every weekend & most of the time that perception is false. Everyone had written off Ohio State after the Virginia Tech game last season. Then they went out & won it all.

Oh... ...so you're saying we really have no idea if our team is good based on the first two games...?

The numbers games are useless unless you hit the lottery with them.

Comparative scores mean nothing. Matchups are different. Every team is different every week. So the team that WVU plays in week 1 isn't the same as the team that some one else plays in week 6.

WVU defense looks great against lower-level teams. Good at their level, but that isn't Power 5 level. WVU's passing is outstanding. Kicking is, too.

Maryland isn't as much of a test as it once seemed to be, although it's good to know the game is a sellout, which shows how smart it was to line up more regional rivals in OOC games. Virginia Tech, Penn State, Pitt will all draw well at Mountaineer Field. Much better than Georgia Southern and Liberty.

Maryland isn't a litmus test. But it is a game that WVU must win, and the easier the better, to stay on the national radar. We've got their attention now. But the Mountaineers need to rev up the engines more when Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor and TCU line up in a row in October.
WVU already is getting national attention as 1 of 5 teams that deserves a closer look among those that weren't in the national playoff discussions before the season began. Its the same guy who picked Oklahoma as one of the 4 playoff teams. So, beat the Sooners in Norman and WVU stock soars in the national consciousness! Just do it, Mountaineers!

I like what I see. It's better than I expected before the season began. But it's a long way from deciding whether the season will be 7-6, 9-3 or 12-0.

M ighty defense throttled Georgia Southern, 44-0

O utstanding defense obliterated Liberty, 41-17

U nilaterally decimate Maryland

N euter Oklahoma

T rample Oklahoma State

A nnihilate Baylor

I ncinerate TCU

N ail Texas Tech

E rectile dysfunction Texas

E viscerate Kansas

R ip open a new one for Iowa State

S kewer Kansas State

Oh. So what's left ? Performance....lol...

There are a few things you can pick up from the 1st 2 games. For example, Skyler Howard is better than expected imo. Also, our 2 young outside receivers look to have a LOT of potential. I was worried that teams would be able to cheat their safeties up in the box without any deep threat & I have much less concern on that front now. Granted it's still early, but it looks like we have a pretty good receiving corps. And we took care of business. We blew out 2 overmatched teams, which is what we should do.

The concerns I have - offensive line & our pass rush. We rushed for 3.8 yards per carry against an FCS team & we had 0 sacks. That's not going to cut it in Big 12 play. We need some balance on offense & we can't just let QBs set back there for 4-5 seconds, because they will pick us apart in Big 12 play (I don't care how good our secondary is - very few dbs can cover for that long).

Overall, I think we have the potential to be a good team, but until we see how this team responds when they get punched in the mouth by other talented teams, it's hard to say what the final record will be at the end of the season. I still think it could be anywhere from 7-5 to 9-3 (maybe 10-2 with all of the right breaks). Still too many unknowns at this point in the season.

O line and D Line has been an area of concern for a long time. I do think the D line is pretty good this year tho. The Oline needs to come together. Beginning this season I was thinking our Tackles would be our weak spot, but its the guard position imo.
