Congratulations! Very Entertaining Game ...nm

Thanks Hump.

Howard's performance probably saved Holgy's job for another year or two.

Kids played their butts off and thought that Wellman was going to break that early run for a TD.

I think you were by far the better team. It kind of reminded me of Marshall's bowl game in that you did things the hard way. (I don't like to complain about the refs, but I thought there was a couple of plays where your receivers were interfered with.)

The refs were horrible. They even got all of the reviews wrong. But I'd rather they call it like that than every little ticky tack thing.

I agree. The refs stunk! There was a lot of good hard hitting in that game. I really enjoyed it.

The "late hit" that prolonged the ASU drive late in the game was absurd! But thankfully Todd Graham can't count and chose to kick rather than go for 2 to go up seven!

I don't even recall that play ... but it was way past my bedtime by that point.

I couldn't believe he didn't go for two!

I meant to comment earlier on Wellman's run......lol....I thought he was going to go the distance on that one too.
I telephoned Elijah's daddy after he was named to the All Big 12 honorable mention team. They were bursting with pride. I am too.

I had to go back to the game to find this ... I had forgotten about it ... yes, absolutely absurd. Especially with everything they were letting go for the entire game. Guy was down, kept running while whistles were blowing and Barber hits him ... happens in almost every single game and is rarely/never called.

...and it was not like he unloaded on him! It was going to be 3rd and 9 from their own 25 as opposed to 1st and 10 from their own 40. They went on to take the lead in the ball game but Graham's math skills failed him and the rest is history!

Exactly ... it was one of those things where the defender sees the guy running and reacts, but realizes the whistles are blowing so doesn't hit them hard.

I'm somewhat surprised they didn't flag the guy for running into the official 15 yards down the field after the play was dead.

...I tell you the refs wanted to screw WVU after the Mounties stopped ASU on down at midfield to end the game! They pulled out a flag and discussed calling WVU for targeting but thought better of it despite Graham coming out 20 yards on the field to lobby for 4 more chances to kick the winning FG. I assume he could have figured out that being down by 1 point that a FG woul

I would have gone absolutely bonkers though if they had made that call ... especially after Howard was targeted about as clearly as possible early in the game. To call an iffy one at that point in the game would have sent me through the roof.

It sure feels that way sometimes, but I don't engage in the "refs are out to screw WVU" conspiracy theories.

Although, I have to admit that I was pretty close to that with last nights TCU game. :)

If they had made that call, if I'm HOGO, I would have taken my team off the field, told the refs if you're going to hose us this bad , we'll just forfeit if ASU wants it that bad! I'm not going to let my boys get blantantly cheated anymore!

What do you guys think about these "targeting calls"? I thought Air Force got hosed early in their game when a player was ejected for targeting. Joey Bosa..... I thought he did deliberately put his helmet in the QB's sternum. They are tough calls to make.

I agree....the calls seem to be very subjective and the results can be game changing! I support player safety but this rule seems to be very capricious.

You didn't ask me, but I don't have too much of a problem with the way college does it. At least not now. The first year was stupid. 15 yards and the player is ejected, unless they review it and show it wasn't really targeting, in which case the player can stay but the 15 yard penalty applies.

Consistency is always where the problem lies though. What was the difference between the Bosa play and the hit on Howard? Nothing. One is called and other isn't.

I played rugby for many years, and as rough as that sport is, there are enforced rules on how you can make tackles. I have never liked players turning themselves into torpedos in football. You don't see that in rugby because 1) it's illegal, and 2) you're not wearing any pads so the likelihood of injuring yourself doing that is a bit higher.

Your observations are correct,IMHO! Very difficult call to make with any degree of consistency!

I agree and I also was a rugby player for a number of years.

I meant to ask you, WhiteTailEER. ...Consistency is the problem. You said it.

I played for 2 years while in college and then a few more in adult leagues afterwards. I'm a little bigger than most so I was a prop but only for one year and then I moved out to wing forward because (in my younger years) I was somewhat fast for my size so getting off of the scrum quickly made sense for me. At least on our teams, the props and second row guys were slower.

It was a lot of fun, especially when you're young and you have so much pent up energy.

People talk about having to be in such good shape for soccer, but I honestly think rugby is much harder from that standpoint. Especially as a forward because you're still running all over the place, but then once you get there you'll usually pushing against a pile of humanity until the ball is out and you're off running again.

I miss being young. I thought getting old would take a lot longer.

I'm just over 45 ... got the stupid idea to do mountain bike races summer before last. Now I have two herniated disks in my neck. Definitely one of my best ideas ever. :flush:

At least you don't have a prostrate the size of a basketball yet.....ain't no fun pissin' 4 times a night!

Prostate is fine, but I have a kidney disease that causes the same thing. Or maybe it's all the water I have to drink to keep the kidneys flushed, either way ... I'm up about 3 times a night.

LOL thread starts as a congratulations, Turns into a bash the officials and ends in a pissing contest.[banana]

Picked it up while in Okinawa on deployment. My CO (Austin Renforth) played at NAVY, he was from wheeling wv so naturally we got along. He got me out on the pitch to play 7's at first then I started playing 15's. I played fullback, halfback and on occasion as a fly-half. I played a year at Marshall and still play some around Buffalo when I get a chance.

I never played 7's, just 15's. Love watching the college 7's tournaments on TV when they're on.

On the first club I played on they called my position a wing forward, and then in the adult leagues they called it a flanker.

LOL....I'm inclined to agree with you.
I get no credit. That was my fathers post. Hr is funnier and much nicer than me. I rarely ever post during the day unless I am playing hookey from work. He really loves this board. Against my advice he even likes you humpy.
