WVU is ranked 27th (AP writers) and 26th (coaches) in this week’s college football polls.
Ohio State remained No. 1 despite beating Northern Illinois, a Mid-American Conference member, by only 7 points.
But the Buckeyes did lose a lot of first place votes compared to previous weeks, with Michigan State and Mississippi get nearly all of the non-Ohio State first place votes.
The coaches have TCU 2nd, Michigan State 3rd, Baylor 4th and Mississippi 5th while the writers put Michigan State 2nd, Mississippi 3rd, TCU 4th and Baylor 5th.
Alabama dropped from #2 to #12 in both polls after losing badly to Mississippi.
Among other Big 12 schools, Oklahoma is #15 (writers) and #14 (coaches), Oklahoma State is #22 (coaches) and #24 (writers).
WVU ranks far ahead of Texas Tech and Kansas State among Big 12 schools that got votes.
If WVU beats Maryland handily, it will be a matchup of top 25 teams in Norman for the Oklahoma game.
I'll be in Mountaineer Field, as usual, to sing "Country Roads" after the victory.
