MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 27, 2018) – Senior guard Jevon Carter was named the Most Valuable Player of the WVU men’s basketball team at the squad’s 2017-18 banquet, held Thursday night in Morgantown.


Carter, who led the Mountaineers in scoring at 17.3 points per game and led the nation in steals with 112, was a second team consensus All-American in 2017-18. For the second year in a row, he was named the NABC Defensive Player of the Year, the Lefty Driesell Defensive Player of the Year and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Carter became the first Big 12 player to be named to the All-Big 12 Defensive Team four times and was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 Conference First Team.


Off the court, Carter was named the CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year for men’s basketball, the Senior CLASS award winner for men’s basketball, the Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year for men’s basketball and the Arthur Ashe Jr. Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.


Carter and Sagaba Konate were named the Best Defenders. Other award winners were James Bolden (Sixth Man, Unsung Hero and Charge Leader) and Logan Routt (Team Man and Most Improved).


The Mountaineers finished the 2017-18 season with 26 victories and their third NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in the last four years. WVU posted a runner-up finish in the Big 12 regular season and championship for the third year in a row and finished No. 13 in the final USA Today Coaches’ poll.
