them that if they look up they might see a football (LOL) and in most cases a penalty will not be called unless you make contact well before the ball arrives. I know of at lease one case last night that a penalty was called on such a play. Maybe we can hire someone to teach this technique because who ever the instructor is in class " Defense 101" forgot that important chapter. Also don't know what chapter teaches DE's to stay at home when a team runs the read option. I'm sure there are other problems but I think the two mentioned can be vastly improved upon. Let us not go there on our tackling or lack of!

Pitts needed to stay at cornerback cause he has the most ability and height but we badly needed another safety and he has played well at safety instantly. #24 Bailey is terrible like last year and Washington has turned out terrible after his 1 solid game vs Texas Tech. Kansas abused Washington last week as well. Norwood is a safety that needs to play safety.

This staff recruits terrible. They are trying to go down south to NC, GA and get extreme low recruit leftovers. You definitely don’t want leftovers from NC. They suck at a 90% rate. Stick to your roots and recruit WV and the border states harder for tougher cold weather northern boys. Get back to being physical. Ohio, PA, MD, WV, VA. Add a few transfers from anywhere that can potentially help and JUCO. Florida is done and we won’t get much from there ever again. Nehlen never recruited NC cause he knew they were soft and terrible leftovers.

It did not take Coach Nehlen long to understand that he had to go into Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New York, New Jersey and later Florida and compete for top caliber talent in order to win. We all know that was not going to happen.

As coach Nehlen settled in with a very competent and cohesive staff, he could take a longer view of recruiting.

First, WVU above all else had to recruit players with a blue collar mentality. He had to find players who had good skills but were less developed or as refined as others.

Second, by having a long term committed staff, the coaches who recruited an area were able to establish a rapport with local high school coaches. The majority coached in smaller schools which were not as heavily recruited by the major programs.

Third, WVU did not shy away from athletes who perhaps had some sort of a blemish on their record, whether academic or personal.
