Can't help but feel like the entire season was a waste

Yes I know WVU was a top 10 team. Yes I know they finished 2nd in a pretty good basketball conference. And yes you can throw stats and accomplishments at me all you want.

But give me a season of being a 7 seed and making it to the Sweet Sixteen over getting a 3 seed and being upset in the first round by a team that is nowhere near the caliber of WVU any day.

We didn't take them seriously sums it up from the coaches to the players. What a waste.

Yup....felt the pain. IMHO, this loss points up the difference between programs like KU (just for example) & WVU...i think KU & their ilk work all season with Tourney time in mind...they don't care about seeding & just walk in & take care of business, no matter who they play.
Anyway, just my opinion. There's always next year & the hope that brings.

I felt and still feel the same. I imagine in time, the disappointment in the SFA loss will go away and I can reflect on the good season, but until that time, it was a wast.

Final Four to a 'waste'.... ...you're an amazingly complex fan.

Felt the same way Friday and Saturday. It passes. Kids were mentally and physically exhausted... and they played like it. Just one more reason, other Holtons graduation and the incoming class or non press types, why Huggins will make the press a second option next year.

Next year has even more potential than this one.

I enjoyed hoping SFA would beat Notre Dame. SFA and Northern Iowa were my favorite cinderellas I guess. Too bad they are both gone. Losing in an embarassing loss sort of ruined my appetite for college ball for a few days but like most of you, I'll get over it.

The entire season is not a waste, but this one game did do a lot of damage. I know its just my opinion as a fan, but I am no more satisfied with this season than last season. Sure we had a much better regular season, but last year WVU actually did something in the big dance. Hopefully the guys we have coming back will never forget the SFA game and how they felt after (I'd like to see someone give the players a post game article from the SFA game or a picture of Walkup with his tongue hanging out anytime WVU gets a big win to remind them what happened last time. Like someone to whisper that all glory is fleeting) Losing because a team just plays lights out is one thing, but SFA had plenty of flaws to exploit on Friday. WVU just rolled over and for a team that built its season on never being outhustled or out toughed, they sure took it like a drunk prom date. That's why its a horrible stain on an otherwise great season.

Considering the fact now that seeding is overblown. Seeds create hype, expectations and the appearance of upsets. Frustrated by the fact that WV's resume earned the exact same postseason opportunity as SFA's resume. But's that's just the tourney. Matters not the degree of difficulty you took to get there. Once the ball is in the air, seeds are out the door. We've been on both sides of it.

The Big Dance was an epic complete waste. Season was a dream. Very thankful to have seen them play & win 2 in Vegas. Beating 1 Kansas was awesome. After being swept, returning the favor to I-State & Bay was fantastic. Our final win was an all-time classic. Man were we riding high that night.

Program got a ton of national exposure. Good kind before the bad. Can only help recruiting. Players gained BXII experience. I doubt ever again this group will sleepwalk into a NCAA tourney game. A hard lesson learned, but it can be helpful later. Last 2 NCAA exits should be all the reminders this group will ever need.

The entire season was not a waste. Far from it.

But the trip to the NCAA tournament was a complete waste.
And a very distasteful complete waste at that.

But as good as the season was the taste left in your mouth after this season by that NCAA loss will not go away next season unless that team goes to the NCAA's and if it doesn't win the championship it exits the NCAAs while going down with a fight.

I watched that ND/SFA game.
We could have, and should have, beaten either of those teams.

a waste? Lol. What Huggins accomplished with this team was a miracle. They overachieved. Period. No NBA talent. Maybe a future overseas player in Devin Williams. Yet, this team almost won the big 12 and finished top 10. I'm damn proud of them. Some of you fans are disgraceful with your expectations and foolish demands. Just like the anti Dana crowd.

This of all matches was an odd one for me. My first cousin is the head baseball coach at S.F. Austin. Although I am always a Mountaineer, it was in the back of my mind for his school to get some recognition. And they did. Onward and upward WVU. Please take that attitude

This team accomplished a lot in the regular season and conference tournament. I'm sure to them and the students at WVU this year was not a waste. Unfortunately, this team will be remembered mostly for the SFA loss, and not the regular season.

We aren't Michigan State, who will have another great team next year, and the year after, ect. We only get great teams occasionally, so when this happens it feels worse, imo.

This team displayed so much fight all year, so it was disappointing to see them go out like they did.

I think the OP set himself up to be disappointed.

All the talk of a championship or a deep run while trashing others who may have disagreed made it even more of a vested loss for him.

i think some people might have trashed you for being unnecessarily negative about the team this year. for the record, most of us were disappointed and i think we all should have been. and most of us recognize it was still a good year. people are complex.

What compounds the disappointment is that, by all rights, we should be discussing how lucky West Virginia is to be facing a 7-seed in the Sweet 16.

Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin? Really?

Yup, it's gonna sting for awhile.

Get real!

Finishing 2nd in the Big 12 TWICE, regular season and conference tournament, Oklahoma game decided by 1/100th of a second too little on the clock for the Sooners. I enjoyed this season more than I have any of Huggins' years at WVU, including the Final Four. The NCAA run was great but the entire season wasn't nearly as entertaining and exciting and successful in large measure as this season. This was Huggins' best coach job at WVU. I think so. Mickey thinks so. No room for debate.

Now, how about something better than 7-6 in football? That's where the real "waste" is.

Now your cousin is coach at Okie State and we will play his team twice a year.

This season was a real treat but the team had some fatal flaws. And that big flaw was poor shooting and it bit us in several time this season. I never thought that we were a top 10 team because of out struggles on offense. But I did have dreams during the season. As we came down to the end of the first Oklahoma a game I thought we could get the win and be ranked #1. We had a shot at a great tournament performance but we got a little big headed. I hope that loss will become a motivation next season.

how about YOU "get real" and respond to the right person instead of scolding a poster who shares what you just said in favor of Huggins and this team. Maybe you should try reading first.

we could've been facing a beatable Wisconsin Friday rather than Xav, sure. was there for the taking. I feel WV would've out-manned lucky tip-drill ND in the quick weekend turnaround & handled Wisconsin too, that's also living on a prayer. oh well, we'll never know.

shooting could've put us over the edge, yeah, but still we averaged nearly 80 PPG. more than enough to win. last season was same complaints and story lines and even then WV finished with the No. 2 scoring offense in the BXII only behind I-State. the offense isn't as poor collectively as it was in the single example vs SFA. at times we were beating teams behind any number of guys rising both front court and back court.

turnovers ironically ended this season. but it's a problem that can be controlled within the team. no shortage of capability.

Not a waste. Great Season. A lot to look forward to. Every top program has experienced the agony of defeat with an upset. Hopefully, we learn from it and have a better result next season. And yes I am dissapointed, but enjoyed the progress made this season.
